3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a light amber. Heady, lacey. Nutty malty aroma, marris otter?, sweet toffee/caramel. Taste is malty with caramel, toast, nutty, more sweet than bittersweet. mineral. Some ester but mild and refined. Mild for a Belgian strong, not complex but a nice fall/winter type beer.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Not bad, but a little bit of a mash up. Amber color with a smallish head and a bit of lace. Aroma is standard Belgian amber brew. Flavor’s more interesting, Bittersweet up front with figs and bananas, tang in the back along with some malt, and a hint of toffee. Decent body. Good brew, but not exceptional.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
4oz pour at Churchkey DC pours a hazy orange with some sudsy, white head. Nose has strange notes of jalapeno jelly, dusy, honey, yeast. Flavor is more classic, honey, mild raisin, mild spice, booze. Sticky finish. Weird.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Not a bad beer, about halfway between a strong dark and a strong pale. Pours hazy amber with good head and lacing. Some sweetness and florals in this. Tap at Churchkey.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Thanks Chris for sending.
This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a semi - hazy orange to amber color with a decent transparency about it. There was a fairly filmy somewhat thick lacing.
The smell had a nice sweet candied fruity goodness. A nice Belgian sugary sticky spice enters in as it warms. Light vanilla came across as well.
The taste was mainly sticky sweet through the Belgian spices and sugars. Still, a nice sweet tropical fruit settles over my tongue in a super nice way. Vanilla settles over pretty nicely.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was good and smooth and it carried a nice somewhat crisp settling feeling rolling over my tongue.
Overall, really nice Belgian Strong pale ale, I’d have it again.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
"pours an amber orange, the thick white head quickly dissapates. more sludge around inner rim, and heavy sediment beyond the expected yeast on bottom...no worry though...poured clear. aroma is of soft spices and fruit (peach and/or apricot?). flavor is close to the same. alcohol becomes noticeable as it warms past the 50 degrees i served it at. overall it was fairly pleasant, and complex, but not something i’ll likely get again. the aroma promises slightly more than the flavor delivered."

2.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Muddied, hazy brown coloured body with a deep brass and ruby coloured body and absolutely no head or movement at all. Aroma of honey, yeast ,bread, alcohol, raisins, figs, earth, clay and a good amount of scotch - nice and complex in the smell. Medium-bodied; Assertrive prune and raisin sweetness up front with a little earthy bite at the end of malt and a thinnish, metallic twang at the end. Aftertaste is surprisingly simple and one-dimensional with just a deep earthy bitterness noticeable and some very light caramelised sugar flavours - no complexity, no sweetness and no depth. Overall, sort of an enigma where a beer with not a great look leads to an amazing smell, but is followed up by a mildish flavour and then a finish with no character at all - wierd; Decent at best and disappointing for sure. I’m glad I actually purchased this in the USA and didn’t bring it back from Belgium! I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 25-April-2014 for US$3,80 sampled at home in Washington on 14-July-2014 a few days before returning to New York.
