An epic brew from Achilles, a red-brown rich and malty masterpiece with just a dash of hoppy bitterness for balance.

Fizzy amber pour. Quickly becomes a still beverage. No head, no lacing, no bubbles. Looks like a glass of iced tea. A roasty malty aroma with a tinge of a sourness. Bitter, malty, a bit carbonic, and dry. Boozy after a few sips, but well hidden.

After two horrible lagers I needed to remind the palate what good beer tastes like. This was lurking in the back of the cellar calling for attention. A solid Belgian that I could drink all night long it comes in as a reasonably affordable option. If it werent for the difficulty in tracking this down in Ohio I would restock once the cellar was thinned out.

Aroma / Appearance - The gushing tower of foam was a little bit of a surprise. Once it settled I was left with a rich ebony brown base and papery white head. Caramel, candy sugar, and sourdough bread mix effortlessly. It feels like a warm piece of toast with generous layers of Nutella.

Flavor / Palate - Creamy and sweet the palate is sparked after a first sip. Like the center of a Twix the sweet chocolate feel grows until it coats the tongue with a candy feel. Caramel, whipped cream, and ethanol are the general drivers of a solid but not overly complex Belgian. If I had to do it over I would have drank this a long time ago; despite being 9% it does not feel like it has much aging potential.
