DocLock (4083), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 10, 2008 Bottle from State Line. Pours turbid orangy with 1-finger off-white head. Nose is heavy citrus, tangerine, hops, spicy florals, rock sugar. Tastes citric, with orange zest, spicy, floral, bready malt, and yeasty notes. Serafijn makes good beers, and I always enjoy seeing new ones around.
thewolf (3490), Kolding, Denmark Aug 19, 2008 Bottle @ YNWA, Kolding.
Pours muddy yellowish with a big, frothy, white head with big bubbles. Lots of small floaties in the liquid. Aroma is yeasty, some oranges, citrus, coriander and a great flowery edge. High carbonation, okay mouthfeel. Flavour is soft fruity, oranges, melons. Weak metallic off-note and a good, dry finish. Good tripel, but not spectacular. BoBoChamp (618), Gent, Belgium Jul 28, 2008 33cl, from De Hopduvel Gent, complex, balanced, yet easy to drink, cloudy, good head, good brew MiP (4927), Flensburg, Germany Jul 20, 2008 Bottle, 8%. Very yeasty aroma, like baking yeast. There is also some sweet light malts and alcohol in the aroma. Hazy golden colour. Small stable white head. The flavour is sweet, malty and alcoholic in good balance. Has a little yeast in the aftertaste, and otherwise a good, warming alcohol note. kiefdog (390), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 4, 2008 75cl bottle from Habersham Liquors (Savannah, GA). Pours a hazy golden caramel color with a one finger white head that laces the glass. Aroma is sweet malt, caramel, honey, grass, straw, earthy, bread and yeast. Flavor is much of the same with primarily yeast, bread and malty sweetness on the palate. Somewhat watery mouthfeel with a quick, unremarkable finish. Glouglouburp (1915), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jun 9, 2008 In short: Tasty average tripel. Fruity, rather sweet but also very hoppy. Dry and citric. Good one
How: Bottle, 330ml, probably over 6 months old
The look: Cloudy yellow-blonde body with a medium white head
In long: Quite a bit of residual candy sugar in there but this is well balanced by a generous amount of Saaz-like dry grassy hops as well as citric lemony hops. Some mangos and pears in between. Nice dry and citric bitterness. An overall fresh and crisp feeling despite being a sweet strong Belgian ale and not very fresh. More juicy as it warmed up. This was quite a pleasant surprise. I had low expectations about this unknown low-rated beer but it turned out to be a very acceptable Tripel. Like I told all girls I’ve ever blind-dated, lowering your expectations is a excellent way to be pleasantly surprised.
