3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 FlacoAlto (3143) - Tucson, USA - AUG 16, 2006
Pours with a hazy, orangish copper color and is topped by a thin pale tan colored head that quickly becomes patchy. The aroma is a nice mix of citrus-like bergamot notes, a touch of pine, toasted grain, a touch of caramelized malt sugars, a nice biscuit-like notes. While nothing is wow about this aroma, it is really nicely integrated and strikes quite a refreshing balance of hop and malt aromatics.
Sharp, and nicely bitter from the get go, the hop bitterness is found throughout the flavor profile of this beer, it even lingers on in the finish. A touch of bergamot, combines with a very light resinous note and a more evident hop astringency that melds with the perception of bitterness. There is a nice clean malt character here as well, it provides a light palate to this beer that keeps it nice and quaffable. A touch of malty grain sweetness, and even a light caramelized malt character (from a light crystal malt perhaps) helps to just balance the hops. Actually balance is the wrong word, as this is certainly a hop focused beer; it is not as hoppy as some of the more extreme versions now a days, but it is nicely hoppy with just enough malt to round things out. There is nothing in this beer that is out of the ordinary, nothing to satisfy the extremes of the palate, but it is just so well balanced, tasty and quaffable. A thoroughly solid example of a Pale Ale and a perfect first beer of the evening.

An average pale ale. Nice little orange / copper pour with mild notes of caramel malts, hop, and citrus. A little thin and lacking in imagination, but ok.

Aroma has a sour malty scent with a little note of hops. Pours a hazy orange with descent carbonation has a nice frothy white head but diminishes very fast leaving a very nice lacing. I am getting some malty citrus and hoppines out of the taste has a citrus after taste. With a little bit of bitterness. Not bad just doesn’t do a lot for me as a pale ale.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 rangerred (331) - Johnson City, Tennessee, USA - APR 1, 2012
12oz bottle into a pint glass.
Pours a slightly hazy dark yellow with a billowy 1.5 finger head with great retention.
Aroma has a belgian yeast quality to it with lots of fruity esters, especially orange and lemon. A little light bready malt as well.
Taste is quite fruity and full of orange and grapefruit. Again there is that Belgian quality with the spice and fruit. Some light bread it detectable but no flavor is very strong. A light bitterness cleans everything up at the end.
Overall, it is an ok pale ale but somewhat lacking in flavor. The spice and malt is different than other APA’s out there but not really enough for me to seek out again.

Light amber beer with some golden/orange highlights. Slightly hazy, effervescent bubbles, and nice white head. Aroma is very mild, there’s some fruitiness but also an unpleasant hint toward grain husk that’s foreboding. Very easy drinker here, not a ton of depth. There is some sweetness that plays nicely with the biscuity malt, also tending towards a lighter grain, while the hops make an appearance without leaving much behind.
