COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Also available bottled.
Our award winning Barnsley Bitter is brewed using the finest quality Maris Otter malt and English hops. Chestnut in colour, having a well rounded, rich flavour, it retains a lasting bitter finish. Brewed using yeast strains used in the 1850’s to brew ’Barnsley Bitter’.

Cask by handpump at Drum & Monkey, Glasgow (14 Jan 12) - silghtly hazy brown ale, bit too cold, strong bitter flavour and lasting bitter aftertaste, not my thing

Cask at The Waters Green Tavern, Macclesfield. Clear orange gold with a medium off white head. I quite enjoyed this. Roasted malts and some bitterness, some fruity hops, hint of tobacco. I’d have this again.

(on tap) Hazy copper, white head. Aroma is treacle and tea. Medium body, well carbonated. Flavour has dark treacle and coffee with a nice bitter finish. Overall a nice beer with some richness and strength of flavour.

Cask, The Plough, Chelmsford Floral, hoppy notes on aroma, yeasty, fresh bread, taste is toffee, caramel, grass, straw, hey, honey, lots of crystal malt but well measured against a surprisingly hoppy bitter. I know now what beer writer Pete Brown is on about in Three Sheets... about good Barnsley Bitter. There is a mild fruity presence in the finish with the toffee. This is very easy to drink and would be a great accompaniment to fish and chips.

From cask at Sheffield Tap. Pours clear and golden orange with a creamy, tan head. Aroma is roasted malt and mild fruity note. Roasted breadish malty and mild hops fruity. Lingering roasted malty and subdued bitterness into the finish.
