A deep malt and hoppy aroma with liquorice throughout. Roast malt, friut and hops also carry through this full bodied stout.

Cask in Craft Beer Co. Colour is ruby red/very dark brown. Nose is very fruit hoppy for a stout. Also some chocolate. Taste is leafy fruity hops, then chocolate, but there’s also a slightly plasticky taste about this. Finish is also surprisingly bitter.

Tasted this imperial stout type in the Three Judges, Glasgow in April 2010. Handpump dispense. Dull black in colour with ruby tints on the edges. Creamy thick buff head. Strong roast aroma and good smooth mouthfeel. Excellent lacing throughout. Dark malt complexes give dry woody notes of tobacco, bitter chocolate, and roast coffee. Bitter hops impart a dry aftertaste which compliments the malt well. Vineous edge in the finish with a sweet alcoholic kick evident but bitter dryness dominates. Excellent imperial stout and worth seeking out.

Very dark red-black colour. Mouth feel is a bit thinner than I was expecting, but it works with the taste. Nice full bitter finish, satisfying sourness too. Dark malt at the beginning and after the hoppiness gets going. 6% abv, stronger than usual stouts. Overall I reckon this all works really well. I had this on draught and in bottle. Good stuff!!

Bottle [500ml]. Pours a deep ruby-brown, almost black, with a spare diminishing frothy tan head. Mild aroma of roasted malt, a bit of Cola, dark fruit, a touch of coffee, chocolate and light leafy hops. Flavour of roasted malt, coffee, dark fruit and light leafy hops. Body’s a bit thin for the style. Somewhat-creamy mouthfeel. Pretty good but I thought it would be better.

In short: A sweet and fruity stout with decent hopping. Well balanced basic stout
How: From a bottle at Mondial de la Bière 2011
The look: Near black body topped by a small tan head
In long: Nose is roasted and very fruity (almost vinous). Body is somewhat thin for a 6% beer, baked raisin pie, brown sugar, brownies, good amount of leafy and wooden hops. Overall well balanced. Nothing spectacular here, and by our North-America standards this is very much restrained for a so-called Imperial Stout. I haven’t been impressed by Acorn so far. While on the Acorn subject: I was sitting under an acorn tree and an acorn fell on my head. No scientific discoveries. I guess it only work with apples.
