3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 wheresthepath (1082) - - NOV 18, 2009
[Cask at the Hobgoblin, Reading] Deep amber-brown with a large off-white head. Slight fizz. Deep, earthy bitterness at first, then lots of spice comes through (chilli and coriander?). Sweet malt mixes well with the spiciness and helps offset the bitterness. Still a little too bitter for my liking, but despite that a fine beer.

On cask at The Stagg’s Beer Festival, 2011. Pours a dark copper colour with a thick beige head. Aroma of roasty malt, coffee and caramel. Similar coffee ground flavour upfront with roasty malt again and nicely bitter. Moderate carbonation and a little dry to finish. Not bad. Long chocolate and coffee linger.

Cask conditioned handpump Moon On The Square Northampton. A dark brown to chestnit coloured beer with a whitish head and lacing. A good fruity malty beer. A bit of coffee in the mouth, but there are citrus hops too. A good bodied beer whose flavour profile reminded me of a US Brown Ale. Really tasty.
