Cask@The Criterion, Leicester. Reddish black beer with a lightly roasted aroma and a roasted, mildly coffee and spiced flavour. Overall a nice smokey/roasted beer.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 23, 2012
Best before July 2010, this 500ml brown bottle was drank and reviewed in April 2010. The beer was poured (twice) into a bulbous tulip glass (a stemmed Palm badged one).
The colour was almost black, held up to the light source it revealed that it was really a deep, dark ruby red colour, a rich foaming tan coloured head sat proudly on top.
The aroma was all about burnt/roasted malts, as was the taste once the beer was in the mouth. Rich, creamy and full of those malt flavours already mentioned, lovelly.
Impressed with this, my second beer from Acorn. Not too sure about the rear label claiming chocolate, cherry and liquorice flavours, but I suppose if your tastebuds are finely tuned you might be able to find those flavours, I couldn’t, I just liked the beer!
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Stephanos (858) - NORTHERN IRELAND - DEC 13, 2011
Bottle From Fletch the monkey, postal trade!
Opaque brown-black with a thick and creamy mocha head as if poured through a sparkler. On the nose its licorice and dark chocolate. In the mouth its rich and roasted up front with amazing mouth feel for its relatively low ABV. Milk chocolate with a coffee bitterness in the long and dry finish. If its this good in bottle I’d love to try cask!

Bottle 500ml. @ home.
Clear dark brown colour with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy malty, dark chocolate, dry chocolate, malt, moderate roasted. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20111026]

Bottle. Roasty, chocolate, alcohol, kola nut, fruit, tobacco. Thin loose bubbly tan head which quickly dissipates. Very dark mahogany body. Bittersweet. Dry finish. Soft mouthfeel. Fizzy on the palate.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Glouglouburp (4772) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 8, 2011
In short: Sweetened whole-wheat brown bread in a bottle. Meh
How: From a bottle at Mondial de la Bière 2011
The look: Mahogany body topped by a small tan head
In long: Nose is a bit toasted, whole-wheat bread and walnuts. Taste is soft brown whole-wheat bread, brown sugar, light toasted notes, earthy notes, forest floor notes. No hops to speak of. Soft carbonation. Too sweet for its own good. No brewing problems per say, just not a fun beer to drink. I had more than enough of my 4-5oz sample and at 4.4% it should be a beer to drink by pints. I’m afraid my rating might be taken as an insult to this new up and coming English brewery. But honestly I don’t give a shit. And the funny thing is, people who don’t give a shit are always assholes. Ironic isn’t it.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20 nealgersh (19) - South Yorkshire, ENGLAND - SEP 5, 2011
A very good but not exceptional porter. Like many Acorn beers, it really does the business, but not with aplomb. In fact it’s kind of "straight forward" and immensely drinkable at the same time. May be I’m missing something...
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 DruncanVeasey (5136) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Prem, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - JUL 11, 2011
Good as black with ruby trim and a fat tan foam. Enticing Cadbury’s Chocolate Eclair dipped in black coffee, plummy yeast, Black Jacks aroma. Mellow, well-roasted taste with blueberry streaks and a lingering, ash-flecked finish. Full cream, whipped mouthfeel with a well-judged tingle of fizz. Fine beer.
