Aromas of citrus and melon with hints of white pepper tantalize the nose of this delectable IPA. “Willow Wolves” is delicately balanced with hints of caramel and slight bitterness of grapefruit rind and pine on the finish.

Short: A drinkable but specialty malt driven, tannic IPA

Origin: Tap at Encinitas Ale House Size: 4oz Glass: Mini flute Price: $2 Date: 1/18/14
Long: Red amber pour, great lace. Nose is mild citrus. Juicy up front in taste finishing harshly- tannic, overly bitter and biting. Dry, sharp palate, dry, papery.
Flaws: Tannic, harsh bitterness, sticky specialty malt unnecessary, and for some reason I read "Willow Wolves IPA" as a White IPA so was surprised to see a specialty malt amber ale.
Remedy: Drop specialty malt, less boil time with hops, check mash temperature and Ph to reduce tannin extraction. Consider making this a White IPA since the name fits.

My first offering from Acoustic. Not bad, not great but pretty solid all around. I do have a yeasty sort of leftover taste, but no big deal.. I’ll have to try more of their stuff from my super secret no-limits no-hoarders under-the-radar shop I go to.

Keg at the taproom, 13/11/14. Clear golden amber with a decent off white covering. Nose is skunky hops, bitter citric peel, grapefruit, light minerals, pine. Taste comprises red grapefruit, pine, semi skunked hops, bitter grapefruit, orange pith. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a skunky hop wash. Solid IPA.

Good to be rater 10. Bomber from Bine & Vine. Pours copper with a beige head. Nice strong hop aroma - citrus and spice. Nearly full bodied. Caramel is a bit oddly roasty, hop is near dank, and there’s some hottish spice bits. Not to mention it’s really citrus rind. Earthy? It’s strongly flavored which is good, but there seems to be a disconnect between the flavors. In the finish it’s earth and spice bits with rind. Strong finish, so I like it.

On tap at the brewery. It poured a medium orange color with a white head. The aroma was of citrus, pine, hops, tropical fruits, malts and some banana. The taste was similar to the aroma with a medium body and a nice mouthfeel. Very nice.

Poured up on tap at the brewery where it exhibits a clear copper body that supports a near white head. The aroma offers up mostly resiny hops that have pine and a spiciness going on. The taste is nice with hoppy goodness that has pine sliding into a rye twang note. This has big ole’ resiny hop goodness going on that’s right in your face (and your mouth). Pretty solid.

Sample at First Sunday. Big hop aroma and flavor profile. Aroma is al ittle nicer than the flavor with a bit of citrus and grapefruit. The flavor falls a little flat and is mostly pine and resin stickiness.

Good balance and a smooth taste but it has way too much vegetal flavors. Some people will love this beer others will hate it

On Tap at Public House La Jolla. Bold Spicy citrus and pine aroma. Almost amber in color. The spice, and earthiness are right up front on this one. Pleasant malt that is subtly sweet, but not in the way. Good slightly bitter finish.
