Commercial Description:
Adelardus abbey beer is the youngest descendant of our beers. This dark brown beer was made for the open house days of the abbey. Adelardus was one of the most important abbots for the abbey of Trudo and the city Sint-Truiden. He built the tower and rebuilded the existing church into one of the most monumental churches of that time. The ingredients are: brewing liqour, malt, yeast, hop, candy and ‘sweet gale’. ‘Sweet gale’ is a mixture of ten spices from the region, which gives the beer his typical flavour. The alcohol content of this abbey beer is 7 % vol.alc.

Bottle @ Plan B, Copenhagen. BB 08/08. Pours dark brown with almost no head. Aroma is dusty malty, yeasty & very vinous. Plum & port. Smooth & soft - nearly no carbonation. Round, mild & sippable. Well aged!

Bottle Bikesandbeer’s brother Marty brought back from Belgium. Enjoyed with them on 1/4/08 when I was severly drunk. Pours brown with an off white thin head. Nose had hints of grape juice. Taste is sweet light and nice and quite tasty.

A clear brown coloured beer, small white head, yeasty fruity aroma, short malty ending. Good beer.

Bottle picked up from Ken Sheathers Wines, Cheltenham, 22-12-07 Pours a very dark, muddy murky brown. Wonderful flavours of dark molasses (also present on the nose), plenty of sweet malts and even a choclatey creaminess in there. I really liked this.

Bottle. (thx for sharing, papsoe.) Hazy, reddish brown pour. Nice, dense, beige head on top. Roasted and sweetish nose with some butterscotch. The butterscotch is evident all the way, but not ruining the beer. The flavor is sweet and slightly roasted as well, finishing with some toffee-ish flavors. Medium, slightly sticky mouthfeel. It is too buttery, but quite nice anyway. (071006)
