COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Adelardus abbey beer is the youngest descendant of our beers. This dark brown beer was made for the open house days of the abbey. Adelardus was one of the most important abbots for the abbey of Trudo and the city Sint-Truiden. He built the tower and rebuilded the existing church into one of the most monumental churches of that time. The ingredients are: brewing liqour, malt, yeast, hop, candy and ‘sweet gale’. ‘Sweet gale’ is a mixture of ten spices from the region, which gives the beer his typical flavour. The alcohol content of this abbey beer is 7 % vol.alc.

I do not wax on poetically about beer but I do know the quality of a beer once tasted. This review is not about my tastes but reinforces the numbers, which are arbitrary.

UPDATED: APR 30, 2016 Lekkere zachte en rijke dubbel. Mooi van aroma waarbij de gebrande mout goed proefbaar is. Tonen van kandijsuiker. Zacht en soepel. Lekker.

Bottle 33cl. Deep mahogany brown with a ruby hue, small frothy tan head, mostly diminishing, light lacing; aroma is roasted malts, dried dark fruits, brown sugar, gruut herbs, resinous, fortified wine, bit woody; taste is light heavy sweet and medium bitter, short to average duration, malty, bit fruity, herbal, resinous sweetbitter finish; medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation; not your ordinary Dubbel, nice.

Bottle at home. Red-brown colour with an off-white head. The pour disturbs the sediment, so my sample has a fair bit of yeast in suspension. Not much aroma, the usual slight yeast and sugar notes. Taste is slightly sweet with some balancing bitterness. Quite rich on the palate with tastes of sweet malt, dried fruits and dusty cocoa. Only average as far as dubbels go.

Dark beer with a small head. Dark malts, spices, nuts, some grapes, some alcohol as well. Not too sweet, dry and mineral in the finish. Pleasant beer

Bottle from an unrecorded source. Poured a hazy chestnut brown colour with a small beige head. Aroma is a mix of spice and perfume along with nutmeg, nut, chocolate and caramel malts. Medium bodied, slick texture, average carbonation. Medium sweet, with low level bitterness. OK...
