COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Adelardus abbey beer is the youngest descendant of our beers. This dark brown beer was made for the open house days of the abbey. Adelardus was one of the most important abbots for the abbey of Trudo and the city Sint-Truiden. He built the tower and rebuilded the existing church into one of the most monumental churches of that time. The ingredients are: brewing liqour, malt, yeast, hop, candy and ‘sweet gale’. ‘Sweet gale’ is a mixture of ten spices from the region, which gives the beer his typical flavour. The alcohol content of this abbey beer is 7 % vol.alc.

330ml bottle. Bit hazy chestnut color. Small size, yellow head, disappears. Sweet, caramel, slightly dusty notes in aroma. Caramel, prunes, slightly yeasty, dark chocolate in taste. High carbonation. Long lasting dark chocolate in aftertaste. Quite decent.

Bottle sample at a tasting at our place. Thanks Stas and Vova. Headless murky brown. Sweet, medicinal, syrupy aroma, sweet, a little fermented cherry and floral taste. Medium body, sweetish finish, low carbonation.

Alengrin (1716) - BELGIUM - JUL 16, 2014
The dark abbey beer from this charming Limburg brewery, spiced with sweet gale, in rememberance of an ancient tradition, before the generalisation of hops. Light beige, mousse-like, regular, stable head, dark mahogany brown with a ruby hue; malty aroma with iron (perhaps a foam stabilising agent?) but also banana, raisins, yeast, black pepper, orange peel, gentle spice from the gale; malty and fruity taste in which the iron returns, as well as the subtle spicing, finish rather short, a bit monotonous in all.

11/IV/14 - 33cl bottle from Willems (Grobbendonk) @ home - BB: X/2014 (2014-362)

Clear deep red purple to red brown beer, big aery beige head, unstable, dissipates quickly, non adhesive. Aroma: soapy and floral, reminds me very much of St. Paul Double. Some citrus and coriander notes as well. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: wow, overload of floral flavours, like drinking a pot pourri, and no that’s not a good thing. Lots of orange peel, pretty sweet and sugary, some caramel, but mainly just very very floral, reminding me of Turkish delight, which is also floral and very sugary sweet. Aftertaste: more of the same, very sweet, sugary, floral, pot pourri, Turkish delight. Did not finish. Cooked with it instead.

330 ml bottle a t home, into a tulip. ABV 7% Dark brown colour on the body, small sized light brown head, with okay retention, leaving minimal lacing on the glass. Very nice aroma, fruity, red grapes, vinous notes, spices. Tastes nice too, again fruity with lots of spices, herbs, the vinous notes still present, bubblegum, juniper berries (?) Medium body, good carbonation, mildly dry on the palate. Very good, not your ordinary dubbel, I see now gruut (a herb mix) listed on the ingredients, makes great difference.

33 cl bottle. Pours a dark brown, clear with white head that disappates quickly. It has ana roma of dried fruits and rum soaked christmas cake. The taste is sweet with a slight bitter finish. The palate is medium body with sticky texture. Overall: decent dubbel
