COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Adelardus abbey beer is the youngest descendant of our beers. This dark brown beer was made for the open house days of the abbey. Adelardus was one of the most important abbots for the abbey of Trudo and the city Sint-Truiden. He built the tower and rebuilded the existing church into one of the most monumental churches of that time. The ingredients are: brewing liqour, malt, yeast, hop, candy and ‘sweet gale’. ‘Sweet gale’ is a mixture of ten spices from the region, which gives the beer his typical flavour. The alcohol content of this abbey beer is 7 % vol.alc.

Murky brown with a burgundy tint and beige foam. The nose is surprisingly strong, sweet, hints of red fruits. The taste is pretty much like the smell but with something floral, sweet honey-like in there, vaguely reminiscent of the Proefbrouwerij’s Bloemenbier. Overall it’s the candy sugar and floral taste that dominate. Underneath that it’s all a bit watery. The aftertaste is soft and sweet without being sugary, still floral honey. Nice enough brew but lacks a bit of oomph.

Vai di classica bruna belga, tra il cioccolatosoe il toffee. Si lascia bere bene, non sfigura dai...

Tap at Moeder Fontainas. This was a very unusual dubbel, probably due to the unusual spice mix. It is sweet initially, malty, with caramel and treacle, along with something I couldn’t quite place (I guess the spices). Actually finishes drier, which makes it a bit more drinkable. Weird and I suspect may divide opinions, but I liked it.

0.33 l bottle at Old Brick’s Inn, Jyväskylä. Reddish brown color. Perfumed and flowery aroma with heavy dull earthy scent. Sweet flowery, earthy and herbal taste with rose, citrus, raisins and dark candy. The spiciness is very controversial, flowery and rose like at one hand, dull compost pile at the other hand. Interesting to taste but I won’t buy again.

Bottle (33 cl) from beerplanet.be. Hazy chestnut with small beige head. Strange perfumy aroma on a background of nutty, caramelly, and chocolatey malt aromas. Light to medium bodied, medium carbonation. Semi sweet, low bitterness.

Bevuta ieri sera per la prima volta! Non eccezzionale all’inizio, poi prenda quota nell’aroma e con in finale decisamente prolungato. L’odore e’ accattivante!

Bottled 330ml. -from De Bierkoning, Amsterdam as Adelardus Trudoabdijbier Dubbel. Murky pale brown coloured, small to medium sized beige head, dried fruits and spices in the nose. Light roasted malt, dried fruits and caramel with too strong spicy presence. Pretty ordinary dubbel.

Bottle. Dark brown coloured beer with a beige head that quickly faints away. Aroma of hazelnuts, spices and malts. Also some fruityness present. Flavour is full, unbalanced (too bad) but stays long on the tongue. Decent dubbel, could have become much more.
