COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Adelardus abbey beer is the youngest descendant of our beers. This dark brown beer was made for the open house days of the abbey. Adelardus was one of the most important abbots for the abbey of Trudo and the city Sint-Truiden. He built the tower and rebuilded the existing church into one of the most monumental churches of that time. The ingredients are: brewing liqour, malt, yeast, hop, candy and ‘sweet gale’. ‘Sweet gale’ is a mixture of ten spices from the region, which gives the beer his typical flavour. The alcohol content of this abbey beer is 7 % vol.alc.

330ml bottle thanks to a holidaying friend. Pours clear dark brown with a thin cream-coloured head. Aromas of caramel, sweet toffee, raisins. Taste is more of the same. A bit dull to be honest.

Bottle from de Bierschuur in Poppel. The beer is dark brown colored and has a small and unstable creamy head, with average carbonation. The aroma is roasted malts, caramel, dark fruits, liqorice, candy and a hint of spices in the background. The taste is full bodied and medium sweet with some light alcohol notes and roasted malts and some spices in the end. The finish is light bitter and spicy and also leaves a light dryness.

On tap at Moeder Fontainas. Was very impressed by the aroma, which surprisingly smelled both like roses and leather.

Malz. Karamel. Natürlich eine angenehme nicht zu aufdringliche Süße. Dezent herb. I Like Dubbel :) !!!! Der Nachhall fast schon ein bisschen quadrupellastig. Toll. From Tap im MOEDER LAMBIC, Brüssel. 25cl/3,50 Euro.

I do not wax on poetically about beer but I do know the quality of a beer once tasted. This review is not about my tastes but reinforces the numbers, which are arbitrary.

UPDATED: APR 30, 2016 Lekkere zachte en rijke dubbel. Mooi van aroma waarbij de gebrande mout goed proefbaar is. Tonen van kandijsuiker. Zacht en soepel. Lekker.

Bottle 33cl. Deep mahogany brown with a ruby hue, small frothy tan head, mostly diminishing, light lacing; aroma is roasted malts, dried dark fruits, brown sugar, gruut herbs, resinous, fortified wine, bit woody; taste is light heavy sweet and medium bitter, short to average duration, malty, bit fruity, herbal, resinous sweetbitter finish; medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation; not your ordinary Dubbel, nice.
