1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
Bottle:   Either this is infected, or overcarbonated as the bubbles in the glass are insane, the head is billowing over the glass, and the aroma is of burnt bike tire air.   Acrid roastiness on the tongue, bike tire air too.   Reminds me of really bad Sake yeast.   I donít think I can do this one... after a few sips, either its a really piss poor example of an Alt (one that is supposed to be a Black Alt?), or its infected.   I struggle to think that the acrid bike tire air aroma and flavor was intended.   Due for a re-rate to confirm this is not what was intended.

Tap at Zio Carlo. Pours a dark brown to black color. Tan head. Aroma is chocolatey with roasted malt notes. Flavor is easy roast, chocolate, malt and sweetness. Great.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark brown pour with a tan head. Aroma is toffee, roasted malt, light Belgian yeastiness. Interesting flavor profile. Good Belgian brown. I must have had a good bottle.

1.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20
i think this may have been the first batch. i just put the bottle in the recycling and forgot to look. it wasnít infected, though, and didnít gush. pours brown with an enormous loose, bubbly tan head. dates, leather, roast, a little yeast, smoke? mildly sweet, lightly bitter. light body, airy feel, excessive carb. difficult to drink since each sip is mostly air. sort of like trying to drink beer foam. towards the end of the bottle all the carbonation seemed to disappear and it was like drinking really unpleasant water. not sure how that happened.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
No gusher here... Thank gawd. Pours black in the glass. Kind of an industrial minty aroma like cleanser. Another rater called it like ímothballsí. I can understand that. Flavors of bitter burnt toast and not much else. Iím kind of surprised as usually Adelbertís beers are kinda tasty. It must be an infection or technical issue. Overall, Iíll try this beer again in a few months and see if it was this particular batch that was off.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pint on tap. Itís a walnut color, no head or lacing. Medium aroma, nice & malty. Mild taste to start, some nice malty characteristics in the middle, decent linger/aftertaste. Some dark fruits present. Itís a different take on a random "belgian ale", but I donít think itís my favorite. Give it a try (beware of bottles, evidently)

0.6 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 1/20
750 ml. caged and corked. Alcohol 6.2% per the label. Despite extensive gusher precautions, a blowout occurred. After the initial explosion, pours almost 100% beige foam, which rapidly collapses into a hazy brown (SRM25) body......nose is redolent of band-aide, with hints of malts.....taste is almost entirely band-aide phenolics ......mouth feel medium, highly astringent, carbonation makes a foamy mouthful. This is quite easily the worst commercial infection in my experience. Given the number of gushers noted I wonder about their sanitation in this batch. This bottle is awful and is a drain pour. Gusher. Black pour with a khaki head. Ugh. Smells like hot dogs and pennies. Sour, metallic, and smokey. Bandaids, lemon, and grass. Unpleasant flavor of pennies, smoke, bandaids, and meat. Hot dog, ash, lemon sourness, and some grass.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
This is very dark brown, almost murky in appearance. Its aroma is sweet and roasted, slightly spiced and so reminds me almost of a Dunkelweizen, but with a heavier, sweeter, Belgian edge. Itís a little numb on the palate, but still offers soft, smooth, roasted flavors. Overall, itís somewhat porter-like in constitutionÖ but with a distinctive yeast character.

Bottle - GUSHER ALERT. The Wesley beer. Black pour with a rather large sized head that took forever to settle. Yeast, roast, some spiciness, and earthy. Blah.
