COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Colombian Monks in Kenya could really cut it loose during their annual retreat hosted by Del at the Navasha House. Clean, complex malty ale with nutty flavor and plum fruity aroma. Pair with hearty foods and medium intensity desserts. Goes great with barbecue or chocolate cake.

Bottled. An unclear amber beer with a tan head. The aroma has notes candy sugar, malt, yeast, and dark dried fruits. The flavor is sweet with notes of spices among them cardemomme, dried fruits, yeast, candy sugar, and alcohol, leading to a dry alcoholic and spicy finish.

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of bu11zeye. Pours a clean deep copper with a lacing off-white head. Explosive cork but didn’t gush. Sweet caramellish nose, some overripe fruit notes. Rich body of sweet overripe fruit, a little rustic and oxidized, but pleasantly so. Some warming alcohol. A nice Belgian, but nowhere near a Dubbel in style. 250113

Bottle. More malt than hop flavors, a little unbalanced. Very carbonated, but I didn?t lose the cork when I unwound (unlike their hippo). Batch 2 bottle 2724. Bottled 3/30/12 opened 1/3/13. Better than the hippo, good beer but not great. I expect more complexity in taste. Aroma is good (best rating), appearance cloudy but thats expected when there is yeast in the bottle. 13 overall.

Out of the bottle: very well carbonated. Lots of Belgian yeasty notes on the nose. However, these don’t carry over to the taste, and I get a lot of roasty flavors - and maybe some root beer - that I don’t usually taste in a dubbel.

Draft. The look is cloudy, beige colored head, and has a bright orange color. The smell is caramel, sweet, fruits, sugar, yeast, and decent. The taste is similar to the smell but with the alcohol coming through.

Sampled on 10/11/12 at GABF. This abbey dubbel pours a light to yellow gold color from the tap. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity and sweet, with a touch of yeast. A medium bodied dubbel. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are earthy. Decent carbonation. A touch yeasty. Seems to be missing some of the mouthfeel and sweetness one kin of expects in a dubbel. Still the flavors are very nice, they just seems muted. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Aroma is malt forward with sweet dried fruit being the predominant fragrance and hints of caramel. Pours a beautiful reddish copper with a long lasting off-white head and minimal lacing. Taste is medium sweet with notes of dark dried fruit, and caramel. There some nutty/alcohol notes in the finish. Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation and a medium lasting aftertaste. Overall, I liked this Dubbel. Nice work Adelbert.

Bottle:   Caramel, a little dirty and thick, moderate frothy sandy head, little lacing.   Barnish nose, in a musty whole wheat sense.   Sweet breadiness on the tongue, not heavy, a little whole wheat, musty fig, and nutty caramel.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Not too deep or rich for a Dubbel.   Finishes quick, bready, witih some lingering nut and fig notes.   Not a big example, could be richer and heavier... or should I say, needs to be richer and heavier.   Fairly clean tho.   Happy it only gushed a little when I opened it.   Thanks for this one Bill!

Murky light brown color with fleeting head. Herbal, minty, spicy, rootbeer aromas. Toffee, milked up herbal tea flavors with rootbeeer spices--decent

A gift from friend Paul B; Thanks! Poured at a good temperature with a nice, thick, light tan colored, foamy head that lasts for a while and some lace. Color is a clear, dark honey amber with loads of bubble trails. Aroma is caramel, toffee, malt, yeast, wine, spice. Flavor’s like nose and has carbonic tang up front followed by sweet then the flavors and bitter. Also has circus peanuts, and cloves. Body and carbonation are good. Finish is like flavor, fairly long and a hint of alcohol warmth.
