Bottle:   Caramel, a little dirty and thick, moderate frothy sandy head, little lacing.   Barnish nose, in a musty whole wheat sense.   Sweet breadiness on the tongue, not heavy, a little whole wheat, musty fig, and nutty caramel.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Not too deep or rich for a Dubbel.   Finishes quick, bready, witih some lingering nut and fig notes.   Not a big example, could be richer and heavier... or should I say, needs to be richer and heavier.   Fairly clean tho.   Happy it only gushed a little when I opened it.   Thanks for this one Bill!

Batch 9, bottled 3/25/2014 - over 2 years old. Struggled a bit with the cork, but eventually was able to remove it cleanly. Hazy medium mahogany with a dense two-finger head and minimal lace. Rich dark fruit - plum, fig and raisin - aromas with chewy bread, yeast and a hint of alcohol. Taste is mostly fruity sweetness with a breath of alcohol and yeast notes. Nothing hoppy about it. Full body, generous effervescence, creamy mouthfeel and a lingering sweetness in the finish.

Batch 3 750ml bottle in a tulip. Pours copper with a white head. Aroma of spicy yeast, pale and caramel malts (way lighter malts than a lot of dubbels), some light floral notes, and faint notes of dark fruits. Flavor the same with a pretty nice blend for being so old and a dubbel. Really carbonated - shot the cork off. Not a bad beer at all, just not my favorite style, which is why I might like this more since it doesnít seem to be true to the style. EDIT: Really harsh on the finish. Starts cool, finishes bad.

750 ml. corked and caged bottle. 7.2% ABV. Bottled !/08/2014. Pours a thick, gradually collapsing, light beige head, with Belgian lacing, over a clear, effervescent copper amber (SRM 17) body......nose is light plum, hints of raisin, sweet, minimal hops, balance to the malts.....taste is slightly sweet, with plum, raisin tones, light cereal, becoming dry, light bitterness on the finish, balance to the malts.....mouth feel, medium body, minimal alcohol warmth, slightly sticky, carbonation high with creamy sensations, light acidity. This is a pleasant beer, with reasonable balance between the malts and hops. It is not as malt rich and complex as the best in the style, and it is not as estery as some. A moderate re-work of the malt back bone (CaraMunich, CaraVienne), and perhaps a change of yeast should easily correct. BJCP 7/3/11/4/6

Pours a light brown into stemware from bottle (lighter than expected) with a quickly dissipating head. ery malty aroma along the lines of caramel. Nice sharp carbonation. Taste is a little spicy, with light amounts of bitter and a lot of sweetness. Very drinkable but doesnít compare to authentic belgians

#2012 Vintage. Tanks to Uli for this one. 750 ml. bottle sampled @Modeste 2014. We let Roland from De Dochter van de Korenaar taste this one & he mentioned a long list of imperfections & got rid of this one. Uli was anything but a fan either. I do understand them because even if Iím not that good at naming brewing errors, this does not taste in any way imaginable as a Dubbel, weird barley wine is maybe what I would go for if I head to guess the style. This doesnít seem okay either to me. Either way dark amber, orange with no head. Nose sis sweet orange, strange spices, orange, something bit off. Taste is lightly tart, caramel, vanilla, weird off flavours, sweet sugar, yeasty, honey, boozy,Ö Fizzy. Drinks still but not too good.

750 c&c from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Batch 008. Opened with a decent pop, releasing a plummy cloud of vapor. Pours copper with a 4 finger frothy head. Aroma is something like plum, raisin cake and treacle. Med body. Flavor is treacle, raisin, plum/prune and a hint of chocolate. Certainly not dry, but itís within a tolerable range of treacle. Iím of two minds about it, but it makes me eager to try something like a tripel. Likin this!
