This is an odd duck. Reddish color a bit cloudy thin head. taste is earth, sweetness but really lacking the belgian esters I expected and feeling like a bad knock off more than a real beir de garde. It’s not terrible it’s just not good.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Stubby 375mL bottle. Not too exciting of a beer, and the flavors that are there are just muddled and messy. Some nice biere de garde "oldness". I would drink this with duck I think.

Bottle from Pete and Gail...Thanks! Pours a brown-amber with a thin head. Looks a little watery. Some lacing. Aroma is barnyard, slight musty brett, malts and leather. The taste is similar. It really has the barnyard funk to it. Maybe slightly infected? Malty, no sweetness, medium carbonation, light body. Overall it was OK but not sure if infected or not. Kind of odd.

Tap at Zio Carlo, but I've had this a bajillion times before. I remember 330 cl bottle of this gushing in my sink one time. But I digress. Pours a very murky reddish brown color with a super foamy beige head. Aroma is malty, roasted caramel and musty notes. Almost floral as well. Flavor is dry, floral, perfume, light in mouthfeel and bitter on the finish. I remember this having more of a sugary element to it previously.

750mL. Pours a full haze orange with higher carbonation. Nose is celery, sugar, sticky. Taste is sticky maple, overcarbonated body. Aerated palate, a bit drained and mineral heavy. Not much flavor wise, pretty bland. Mildly infected perhaps.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark amber with a decent head that held on for a while and ended with I nice white topping. Smells of caramel and slight toast. Taste is mostly a caramel sweetness with some spicy hints. Really good brew, just wish it was more affordable so I could drink it more often.
Bottle said batch 12... Not sure if all batches taste the same since this one does not taste anything like the description on this web site shows.

Bottle pour dark hazy golden brown. Nose spicy, sweet malt, and hint of sour. Taste sweet malt, Belgian style yeast esters, hint of clove. Sour finish. Fairly fizzy mouthfeel.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottled: 12/13/12. Batch 011.
Appearance: Pours a lightly hazed, amber-hued body with, well, no head formation, as the bubbles are evaporating nearly instantaneously. A beer that begins with a mewling whimper.
Smell: Minor note of toast and light, lightly husky grains. Beyond ripe, soiled fruitiness of apples, apricots, and peaches. Slight phenolic spiciness with a medicinal hint to it.
Taste: Notably devoid of sweetness from the first sip. Slightly husky, toasty maltiness wrapped in a pervasive sourish that really knocks the wind oughta my sails. A fruitiness of fruits that have gone south a few days prior. A blip here or there of phenols. Finishes fairly flat with a little lingering sourness and meager medicinal tone.
Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Very low carbonation.
Overall: A beer that is woefully undercarbed and poor tasting doesn’t exactly win me over. Where are they scratchin’ that hippo?
