Bottle:   Reddish hued amber, dirty, hazy, moderate foamy sandy head, light lacing.   Rustic nose, barnish, musty, a little bit of earthiness with a dull floral background.   Bright musty/barnish notes, a little earthy on the tongue.   Fairly respectable.   The only thing I dont care for is that both the 750ml and 330ml that I opened tended to gush right out of the bottle.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Bright earthy finish, slight sweetness, barnish and musty.   A bit more exciting than the majority of other Biere de Gardes I have had, especially French ones.   Thanks Bill!

Heavy grass and mildly woody aroma. Copper appearance, thick beige-white head. Taste is just okay....not bad. Malty like an octoberfest, caramel, lingering finish of bread.

Nose hard to place, spicy. Bold frothy fizzy head settles. Medium dark red glow through glass at edges opaque in the middle. Complex palate, spicy, sweet hops action, most uncommon even in craft brews. Lingering spicy aftertaste and interesting character. Very tasty and likely more subjective than a less sophisticated brew. Do not taste the cocoa or even the caramel they boast. There is a lot going on in this one. Love it but powerful lingering flavor on the palate. 6.9 % only.

appearance: deep ruby copper, lightly hazed, with a foamy-to-creamy tan head and decent lacing. aroma: malty and sweet, full of toffee and light molasses; earthy and a bit leathery, with some raisin, raspberry, and then some estery yeast notes. taste: caramel, leather, molasses, prunes, figs, raisins, a hint of cherry and chocolate. finish: smooth and slightly creamy, with lingering general malty sweetness and stone fruit esters. notes: A fully enjoyable BdG. Bottle from the Rare Beer Club.

Shared 750 ml. bottle poured to snifters, showing a coppery amber color, with a persistently frothy layer of soft white head foam, and clingy spots & strands of lacing. The nose was malt sweetness, light spice, with some esters as currant & cherry. Medium bodied, with lively carbonation, and a frothy, effervescence to the mouthfeel, the esters continued in the taste, along with the touch of malt sweetness that was slightly toffee-like in nature, and a modest, earthy bitterness. Not mulling over the beer too long, the flavor seemed to noticeably fall off in expression toward the finish.

On tap at The Ginger Man, NY. It’s a clear, dark amber colored beer with a small, light beige head. The aroma is lightly roasted with prunes and caramel chiming in. It’s full-bodied and nicely carbonated, with flavors of lightly roasted malts, some prunes and dark chocolate and a faint meaty touch. Not much bitterness to talk of. Long finish. A bit on the malty side perhaps, but it’s a Biere de Garde so nothing to complain about, and it’s really fine anyway. 150624

Pours slightly hazy deep amber with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel and dried fruits. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a long malty, caramel and fruity finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Aroma is a very light sweetness. A tiny bit tart? Pours a very dark red with a nice thick head from bottle into stemware. Thin body. Taste is likewise a gentle sweetness with some Sourish background. A little belgian yeast flavor as well. Nicely balanced but a little thin.

750 ml. corked and caged bottle. Batch No. 22. Bottled 10/16/2014. 6.9% ABV. Pours a thick, well retained, ivory head, with moderate lacing, over a clear, light copper (SRM 18) body......nose is toasted malts, with light cola tones, ginger ale, hints of cocoa, no hops, balance slightly to the malts......taste is light malts, almost dry, minimal fruits, finishing dry with minimal hop bitterness.....mouth feel, light of medium body,minimal alcohol, pleasant tingle from carbonation. This is a pleasant beer. It is most definitely not a Biere de Garde. It lacks the malt complexity and sweetness of the style and more nearly just a fancy Amber. The malt backbone needs a rework and perhaps a yeast change. BJCP 5/3/10/4/5

Bottle at home. Pours lightly hazy brown with a large, frothy beige head, medium retention with light lacing. Aroma is toast and cookie malt, earthy hops and yeast, dates, and cellar notes. Flavor is sweet malt dominant, light earthy hops and bitterness, earthy and cellar notes with a sweet finish. Medium body and carbonation.
