3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 5000 (4974) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - OCT 5, 2012Bottle:   Reddish hued amber, dirty, hazy, moderate foamy sandy head, light lacing.   Rustic nose, barnish, musty, a little bit of earthiness with a dull floral background.   Bright musty/barnish notes, a little earthy on the tongue.   Fairly respectable.   The only thing I dont care for is that both the 750ml and 330ml that I opened tended to gush right out of the bottle.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Bright earthy finish, slight sweetness, barnish and musty.   A bit more exciting than the majority of other Biere de Gardes I have had, especially French ones.   Thanks Bill!

On tap at Black Star Co-op. pours a musty amber brown with a gray head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has notes of earthy bread with light spice and a bit of sweetness. Flavor is similar with light spice and funky dark grains with a finish of light grains.

Poured as the darkest BdG I have ever seen. Nice malty nose and has a great maklt backbone, but a little astringent across the tongue.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20 glenD (29) - - MAR 25, 2013
12 oz bottle. Smells like popcorn. Taste is a weak belgian flavor that I can’t focus on, possibly yeast. Pretty lame beer really. Nothing sticks out to make it taste amazing. If you’re local to Austin go to Middleton brewery in Wimberly and get some real local beer. This stuff just isn’t worth the money.

750 from Whole Foods Austin. Bit of syrup and cola. Light caramel throughout. Bit of a letdown overall.

draft. ester-heavy nose of moldy apples and overripe apricot buried underneath starchy caramel malt. sweet with a syrupy and chewy texture. floral peach / apricot mixed with husky, charred dark amber malt. very pedestrian and not near anything I would call French biere de garde. oh yeah, "Belgium Style Beire de Garde Ale" LOLOLOLOL
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Ratman197 (7628) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - JAN 5, 2013
750 ml bottle courtyesy of Bu11zeye (thanks Markus!) poured a clear reddish amber with a lasting amber head. Aromas of bread, yeast, earthiness and light citrus. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of bread, yeast, earthiness, spice and a hint of fruittiness withg a smooth dry lingering earthy finish.

750 Ml bottle from Kegs and Barrels, Plano, TX. Paid $8.99. Bottled 02/08/2012 Bottle 1027. BOOM!! We got a gusher! Massive over carbonation under intense pressure. We had to pour slowly and often to get a tulip each. Anyhow, nose is similar to a few other Bière de Garde’s I’ve had recently. Not real pleasant. Yeast and a chemical note. Flavor has toffee, caramel malt and a spicy note. With the bottle aged about 11 months at 6.9 ABV, I’m thinking it’s a bit past it’s prime. The over carbonation really distorts the mouthfeel. I give every brew I drink a chance, this just isn’t my type of thing.

Bottle from secret Santa 2012 - blutt59. Pours clear copper color with off white head. Musty apple and damp grain aromas. Lightly sweet and earthy flavor with some mustiness and slightly fruity. Light to medium body with lively carbonation. Thanks Bob.

Hmm, 2 bottles poured with some fizz but very little foam, while the other 2 poured a billowing cloud of foam that made me paranoid. Hazy burnt orange color either way. Aroma of wheat bread, baked apples, toffee, tortillas (?), and maybe grapes. It’s an odd aroma. Flavor is equally eventful with some caramel, sweet bread, bitter apples, earth, tea, grapes and....I don’t know, I’m at a loss. Finishes dry with lingering malt and weird fruit flavors. Not too bitter. Regardless of how it poured, the carbonation felt high either way but the mouthfeel just seemed not to come together for me. Good effort, but it has some weirdness.

Really enjoyed this one. Pours a beautiful rich copper with a clean white head. Nose was grassy with caramel, toasted notes with a light booziness, perhaps of vodka? Flavor is a bubbly apple, malt and toffee, toasted. Great light-medium body. Definitely enjoyable for me.
