COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named to commemorate a night when the Naivasha House in Kenya was shaking so strongly Del thought it was an earthquake. It turned out to be a hippo from lake Naivasha scratching itself against the house. Scratchin’ Hippo is a complex malty beer low bitterness, with an earthy character. Goes well with hearty rich foods like steak, roasts or beef stew.

(750ml bottle) pour is opaque dark amber with a creamy head that never goes away. The head actually adds to the drinking experience. Nose of Belgian yeast, fruit, raisins, cream, nuts and brown sugar. Taste of dark fruits, berries, cream, nuts (macadamias), and lightly spicy. The palate is absolutely perfect with a well carbonated body and very fine creamy bubbles. An excellent biere de garde!

Bottle. Pours a clear copper with a small frothy off white head. The aroma is a bready malt and caramel. Medium mouthfeel with a bitter hop and dry malt finish. Easy to drink very good biere de garde from Adelberts.

11.1 oz. bottle (bottle #09839) served in a shaker, because that’s how I roll- poured a 95% transparent light brown with a copper tint in color, extremely tiny white ring around the glass for a head, aroma of yeast, banana bread, pears, and cider. Hits the mouth with a light body, malt is a little sweet, various esters transform themselves in the middle, finish is very drying. Okey dokey.

On tap at BTBF. Pours with a clear amber-gold body with a lasting tan head. Flavors are of cider, seltzer, sulfur, estery, pear, nutty, caramel and damp leaves. Flavors are watery, nutty, mild sweet caramel, earthy, medium bitter, some pencil eraser. Lively bubbles, dry, thin.

Watch out, it’s explosive...The pour itself is a burnt orange sort of color with a tall white head. The nose is much sweeter than expected. Lots of sweet malt and fruit notes with a bit of yeastiness. Quite a lot of apple to it. The flavor is heavy on the sweet sugar and malt notes. Lots of apple and pear fruit notes, maybe white grape, and a hint of banana. There is a mild yeastiness, too. Really an odd, though not unenjoyable, beer.

Sledutah (2141) - Utah, USA - APR 23, 2012
750ml C&C’d bottle picked up at Whip In, in Austin
Appearance: Pours clear golden/amber with a big foamy off-white head and good lacing
Aroma: Yeast, bready, dark fruit and spices
Taste: Malty, yeast, spicy with a dry light bitterness in the finish
The more I drink it and let it warm up the more I like it. At first it was harsh and bitter but it mellowed out and ended up being a nice sipper.

Bottle. Pours a dark golden brown with a high cinnamon head. Nose is rich with dark fruit and spice. Silky mouthfeel with a good balance; the darker roast is aggressive, adding a very slight porter-like element. Surprisingly forceful, given the ABV. I really liked this.
