Bottle that is at least two years old and found while digging through my "cellar" and cost me $1.59 at Discount Liquor in Milwaukee. Served in my Stone RIS snifter:

A muddy reddish brown color with a small frothy tan head that produced moderate lace. The aroma has lots of fruity esters, caramel malting, candi sugar and some spicy hops. An inviting nose and I got interested is what would follow...then came the taste... what is that? Starts with a quick dash of sugars and malt but then a surprising winey acidic nature pops up. Lot of oxidation in the flavors as well leading me to think of this as more English Old Ale than Barleywine. The finish is sort of peppery but really more papery and blends away to nothingness. Despite the negative comment, this is not really bad, just not expected. The feel is slightly sticky and more mellow than most of the genre. In the end, this is a forgettable beer but not regrettable.

Slightly murky fiery red body, no head. Aroma is fruity and sugary with some cherry, apricot, and pineapple. The flavor is bizarre; lots of pineapple juice (sweetened), heavily sweet malt, and hot alcohol. Where are the hops that other raters mention? The body is full and sticky. Horribly unbalanced in my opinion. Shame.

Hmmm, didn't know what to make of this brew-was it supposed to be a barleywine, or an old ale, or a spice/herb/veg brew? It was like the transexual of brews in my opinion. Very fruity nose-palate was somewhat like DFH rasion d etre, but definately not as good-finish reminded me of Flying dog Horn Dog barleywine, just without the carbonation. A wierd brew-definately not my type of barleywine(SN bigfoot and Avery hog heaven are my types!!)

This has a very sweet, somewhat floral aroma with a hint of cherry. Very rich dark brown in color. The body is sweet, sour, syrupy and complex, but also confusing. It has good flavor but is unbalanced. Kinda tastes like a cross between a traditional barley wine and a Flanders red.

Year unknown. Slightly hazy dark ruby. Thin tan edge head, loaded with tiny bubbles and lasting til the end. Very light carbonation. Aroma of alcohol, strawberries, resinous hops and sugared caramel. Medium thick body, quite viscous. Hearty and filling caramel malts with a hoppy overtone of pine sap. Malt depth is thick and sweet, almost cloying and sticky. Strawberry-like fruitiness. Body thins a bit as it sits and this balances itself better than when it began. Obvious alcohol in the aroma is hidden well within the thick body. Finishes with an increase in sticky fruitiness and juicy hops. A decent Barley wine from an unheard of brewery.

Formerly known as ’Bucky Red’. A deep ruby color with minimal head - typical to style. Floral, malt and alcohol fill the aroma. Warming, fruity and estery. If any fault a bit thin in the mouthfeel. A nice barley wine.
