COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Special - November 2009.
We will recreate this beer using a Belgian yeast strain; pilsner malted barley and a mixture of Biscuit, Aromatic, Munich and Honey malts. The hops will be Fuggles and Styrian Goldings. This will be a full-bodied pale gold beer, fruity and spicy aroma and palate and a low bitterness. Typical examples: Leffe Blonde and Affligem Blond. The diversity of beer is really appreciated in Belgium. Here tradition and innovation go hand in hand and flavour is king. The abbey ales of Belgium were my first real appreciation that beer could be so different from the norm. Although most abbey ales have lost their monastic links, for beer lovers Belgium is still an enlightening experience.

BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 10, 2012
Brown 500ml bottle, best before 30 Apr 2012, poured into two chalices in Sep 2011. Deep amber body with an off-white/cream coloured head, the head later producing some good solid lacing. The smell was of Belgian yeasts and malty sweet molasses. Caramel notes within the molasses, some ripe plums too. The taste was the same as the smell, yeasty, malty with sweet ripe plum like flavours being picked up. The taste and mouthfeel changes however and a refreshing, drier, bitterness arrives towards the end of each sip. Complex and well made, very drinkable, very drinkable indeed.

Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of madmitch76. Pours a clear amber with an off-white head. Sweet spicy nose with some brown sugars. Medium body, sweet burned caramel, fruits and quite some coriander. Some Belgian yeast and licorice. Even a little late hops. But indeed very Belgian in style even if perhaps a little too clean. 230511

Cask cellar run at Old Buttermarket Canterbury. Deep reddish amber colour. Lots of Belgian estery yeast on aroma with some toast and rich malt aroma. Not much condition in mouth but then its been cold recently so this may wake up as weather improves in day or so. Some sweetness on finish. An English ESB made with a Belgian yeast. Some ester banana on finish.
