3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from M&S. Dark amber beer with a residual head. Aroma is a touch bready and floral. Taste is oranges, floral, malts and some spices in there. Not too bitter or sweet, quite refreshing. Medium bodied and slightly carbonated, looked lively when poured though but this soon faded to the right levels. A very good beer.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
[500ml bottle from Beers of Europe] Pours an orangey-amber with a moderate lasting beige head and a medium fizz. Good rich mouthfeel. Orange and the lovely sweet bready Adnams malt up front. Gingery spice comes through, followed by pine and lime and a little hint of tropical fruit. A mild grapefruit finish finishes it off. A typically tasty yet balanced and satisfying effort from Adnams, which shows that malt can pay a great role in a hop-lead beer. Well done!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma: Caramel, toffee apple and pine domintes, but there’s a hint of citrus (green apples?)
Appearance: Hazy, amber body with a huge, lasting beige head. Very light carbonation. Lots of sticky lacing.
Taste: Tastes a little fruitier than the aroma suggests - some lychee and apricot. Subtle nutty flavour. Sweet caramel with a reasonably bitter, bitter finish. The 6.8% ABV is pretty well hidden.
Palate: Medium body with a silky smooth, oily texture. Gentle carbonation.
Overall: Beautifully balanced and conditioned. Would have liked it a bit hoppier, but I was pleasantly surprised by this. Quite malty for an American IPA.

2.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Adnam’s go at a US IPA. Hoppy, fruity, bitter with a balanced malt finish. Not dissimilar to some of the more mass produced American IPA’s. Think Crystal malts with I guesstimate around 40 IBU bitterness from New World hops. £1.99 for 500ml bottle from M&S Harborne. Possibly the best beer from Adnama thus far and I toasted my daughter’s birth with Broadside a few years back at The Lichfield Vaults in Hereford. This rate / review is dedicated to Danny Boy Brown of Mediocre Adventures fame.

Bottle at home, Marks & Spencer Summer IPA. Hazy reddish amber, frothy white head. Nice soft fruity nose, bright mango hops, resinous grapefruit, touch of pine. Nice malt sweetness in the body, good strong hoppy finish. Very flavourful, punchy bitter finish. Lovely cross between old- and new-style

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Hazy amber, medium off-white head. Nose has malty caramel and a fair amount of piney-fruity-citrusy hops. Taste begins with some malt, light caramel sweetness, then develops into a pleasantly balanced hoppy bitterness with oranges, grapefruit, resin. Fairly simple, but very nice.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle as M&S Southwold Summer IPA. Opaque orange body, medium head. Hoppy aroma with pine and caramel. Balanced taste with floral American hops and medium bitterness. Sweet fruity finish with medium bitterness. This is a nice and drinkable IPA that does what a beer is supposed to do instead of trying to ace some bitterness contest.

50 cl bottle, Sheffield, UK via M&S (M&S Southwold Summer IPA). Dark slightly hazy sap colour. Resinous aroma, earthy with a honey and some smokiness. Thick, bready with sweet malt on the finish. A bit thick for me, perhaps more autmnal than summer.
