Hazy amber, medium off-white head. Nose has malty caramel and a fair amount of piney-fruity-citrusy hops. Taste begins with some malt, light caramel sweetness, then develops into a pleasantly balanced hoppy bitterness with oranges, grapefruit, resin. Fairly simple, but very nice.

Bottle as M&S Southwold Summer IPA. Opaque orange body, medium head. Hoppy aroma with pine and caramel. Balanced taste with floral American hops and medium bitterness. Sweet fruity finish with medium bitterness. This is a nice and drinkable IPA that does what a beer is supposed to do instead of trying to ace some bitterness contest.

50 cl bottle, Sheffield, UK via M&S (M&S Southwold Summer IPA). Dark slightly hazy sap colour. Resinous aroma, earthy with a honey and some smokiness. Thick, bready with sweet malt on the finish. A bit thick for me, perhaps more autmnal than summer.

Bottle (M&S Southwold Summer IPA). Rich amber tone and a yellowish-hue of a heady head. Nose is packed with aroma, tropical fruits, pineapple, grapefruit. Some floral notes. In the mouth and there’s a bit more of those floral power pushing through, some caramelic malts too. Well balanced with those strong IPA hops. Very full flavour, but surprisingly quaffable. Finishes with that nice IPA tingle, but with a lot of sweet warming malt in the mouth too.

pivoveskotsku (201) - SCOTLAND - JUN 24, 2012
From the bottle (labelled as M&S’s Southwold Summer IPA). Dark orange/golden colour, off white head which hands around, hops, grapefruit, citrus notes with some floral background. Tastes delicious, bitter, sweet, some caramel, malty and a touch dry. Loved it and was available at a steal of a price (bought in M&S, Palladium, Prague) - 39CZK or £1.22!

Caramel and chocolate with light hops. Sweet with light roasted bitter. Ok, but nothing to speak of.

Bottle from Marks and Spencer, Thurmaston, Leics and labelled Southwold Summer IPA. Pours amber and smells like piney cascade. Nice weight of hops here: slight alc hit, berry fruit, citrus and both UK and US notes. Easy to drink, but full of flavour and refreshment.

500 ml bottle @ Gastropub Tuulensuu, Tampere.
Pours an amber colour with a white head. Aroma of American hops and some caramel. Flavour of caramel malts, American hops, flowers, biscuit and nuts. Medium bodied, slick mouthfeel and a malty, bitter and slightly dry finish. Good.
