3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A dark reddish-brown coloured beer with a thick and frothy off white head. A strong nutty malt aroma, caramel and a yeasty bready element. Full mouthfeel. A mouth-filling malt flavour. Nutty and bready, with a sweet taste of caramel and a hint of bubblegum. An alcoholic sourness comes through in the finish.

From a bottle. Itís a very strong flavoured beer, not for a casual session. A bit too much going on to be great.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
BB 28/02/2015. Poured a semi-translucent deep mahogany with an off-white, two- to three-finger dense foam stout-like head that retained very well. Laced OK in rings. Aroma dominated by mellow tones of malt, maybe a hint of dried fruit and little else detected. Taste of soft sweetish malt with a slightly mild bitterness. Light body. Smooth, soft, light with a slightly sweet finish. Quite good (better than cask).

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Very classical and righteously well-known English ale with a pale beige, mousse-like, stable head and a cristal-clear, warm and appealing bronze colour. Malty nose with fruity, orangey and flowery notes, accents of honey, port wine and coffee; taste a nice soft and smooth maltiness well-balanced with sweetish fruity notes, drying towards the finish and ending in a somewhat peppery hop bitterness linked to a bitterish toasted maltiness. Very English, very enjoyable, well-balanced ale.

500ml bottle. BB 28/02/15. Batch A4044. Pours a deep, dark, ruby colour with a generous beige head. It looks very inviting. Stewed fruit, golden syrup and moderate hop aroma but itís all very subtle and in no way overpowering. Hints of nuts. Light to medium sweetness is balanced by an earthy, medium bitterness which lingers. Medium body which finishes in a semi-dry manner. Decent enough but it didnít quite knock my socks off.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
(Keg at William K Annankatu, 20140702) The beer poured dark brown and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had toffee, caramel and malts. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were caramel, sweetness, toffee, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet and bitter. A very, even too sweet English ale.

The taste is almost flat, non perceivable of the aromas or alcohol. Not very impressed, just an average British beer.

500ml bottle shared with mr_h. Dark brown, reasonable head. Toffee liquorice malt aroma. Caramel flavour. Smooth sweet and well balanced. Not normally my type of beer but this is a good example.
