A fine, heartwarming English Beer, rich in flavours of malt and hops.

A dark reddish brown with a creamy head. Malty aromas, and a taste of malt and treacle. Rather sweet toffee-ish flavours followed by a strong, grassy bitterness from the hops. A good English bitter, but just a little too much malty sweetness for my taste.

Treacle nose with a vinegary overtone. Clear rust, thin yellow head, good lace. Rich toffee flavor, a little ashy. Grassy and leafy at midpalate. Subtle smoke finish. Medium body.

UPDATED: NOV 30, 2014 50cl bottle at home. It pours a deep amber colour with a decent beige head that lasts. Aroma has a very sweet malts note, almonds and other kinds of nuts, dark fruits and some citrus from the hops. Taste has some pronounced caramel malts, toffee, raisins, some biscuity feeling and some bitterness from the citrus flavor. It has a medium body, decent carbonation, a little alcohol warmth and a dry finish. This is actually a good English strong Ale. Very solid and strong in flavor. I would drink it again.

Very dark reddish brown, with dark head. Aroma of cherries, caramel, and whiskey. Watery and a bit bitter, with hints of molasses and fruitcake; better as it warms. More complex than your average English ale.

An unusually hearty ale that looks rich and tastes rich. As advertised, the perfect compliment to a strong cheddar cheese. Probably my favourite Adnams brew.
