Adnams Broadside commemorates the fierce battle of Sole Bay fought against the Dutch Republic in 1672 off the Southwold coast, just across the green from our brewery. The fullness of the beer makes it a good accompaniment for stews and steak or kidney and ale pies. All sausage dishes complement Broadside well. A mature cheese ploughmans or cheeseboard of hard English cheeses are a perfect match for bottled Broadside. (Contains barley). Pasteurised Bottle.

A dark amber clear color with a lasting off-white head. A fruity nose and taste, the beer is sweet but not to sweet. A good balance of malt and hops that leaves a distinct after taste. A great English strong ale certainly.

Bottle. As bottled beer go this is definately one of the elite brigade. This beer pours a very dark red is very clear and has a reasonable off white head. Fruity and malty and powerful beer that I hadnít realised was so significantly stronger than itís cask counterpart. One of those select band of strong English beers that could be drunk alongside similar strenght Belgian classics and that would more than hold its own, very, very moreish.

My top rate so far... Amber coloured body with a off-white head. The aroma has apples and much fruty nose. The taste has a milky feel. The malt is sweet and has some banana in it. Perfect biterness in the end.

bottle. Off-white head. Clear dark. Red brown body. Barley aroma plus something that I cannot quite distinguish, lemon ? Flavor: Well this is a tough one as I think it is rather complex which I like but let me put it like this spicy roast malt(s).

Burgundy pour with a healthy off white head. Caramel aroma. Taste is fruity, malty throughout. Decent palate that coats the tongue. I will buy this again.

a dirt brown color to it. large eggshell head to top it off. a nice nutty sweet brown sugar vibe to the aroma. Has a wheat bran feel to the body along with some dried dark fruits mainly raisons. Very smooth and nice.

Nose is very, very subtle. Hints of yeasty malt. Colour is dark but thin with a weak head. Mouthfeel is also thin, with some nice dark notes of chocolate and aniseeed, but mainly a bit astringent and sour with a too sharp finish. Maybe I had a bad bottle, but I canít agree with the consensus on this one.

Bottle 04/09/2003 Amber red in colour with some alcohol present. Considerably stronger than itís cask counterpart. Fruitiness and lots of malt in the finish.
