Awesome beer. To me, is one of the great examples of what English Bitter/Special Bitter is. Rich bicuitiness, caramelly crystal malt, dried fruits and wholesome powdery yeast. Obviously for RateBeer, the delicious cask version gets a lower rating than the watery pasteurised version, since that has a fashionably higher abv. Also maybe cos that one’s available to the American market.

Deep copper red in colour and slightly cloudy. Has a small sweet aroma but a dominant bitter character... albeit a mild one.

Sweet malty aroma. Dark colour. Nice fruity taste. Easy smooth drink. Can perhaps taste the alcohol a little bit more than in similar strength, or maybe it's just me?

Cask at the Old Bell, Sawbridgeworth. Reddish brown pour with a glass hugging white head. Malty fruit aroma with a bitter, slightly metallic taste. A nice spicy refreshing ale, but not my favourite from Adnams.

Amber in color with a creamy off-white head. Nose is malty with some bread and toffee aromas, mild caramel, some earthy hops, and a touch of yeast. Fairly simple aroma. A bit doughy and maybe some floral notes. The flavor is decently toasted. Lots of bread, some toffee, maybe a touch of caramel. Very light bitterness and hop flavor. Just a bit of earthy and floral hop notes to it. Mild fruit esters on the finish.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask at the Tin Goose, LHR T1 - 24/08/12.
Clear dark amber with a generous off-white head. This retained well married to ’mega’ lacing all over the inside of the glass.
Sweet malts on the nose coupled with toffee, dark fruit and a little grass.
Tastes predominantly of dark fruits, figs, prunes, caramel with a fudge undertone.
Medium bodied, smooth drinking, creamy texture with a dark berry fruit flavour in the finish and a little bitterness.
One of the best pints that you see around and about at pubs that aren’t neccessarily renowned for their beer range!
