i love this beer and drink a lot of it when i go up to Hastings. Nothing will ever topple Doom Bar in my heart, but this is certainly in my top 3. Totally drinkable, malty nose, light bitterness, nutty and all things nice. I even like the advertising and their staff at GBBF 2005. Top Marks.

This is my wife’s favourite beer! Well it was in August 2006: when I wrote this on BA. This is serious drinking beer, full of colour, full of powerful flavours and aromas. A dark ruby-red strong English Ale which demands respect. My wife and myself drink it in ’The Nelson’, Southwold. The pub is full of naval stuff, as you would expect, it is also only 400 yards from the brewery. The horse-drawn dray delivers to all the pubs in Southwold even to this day, a great sight. Adnams are pushing their beers into the ’Free Trade’ more and more at the moment and are expanding. Their beers are now available all over the UK. I have not detected any lowering of standards or tastes of any of their beers. I try them whenever I come across them, Broadside at its best, is a very very good beer.

Cask at the Swan in the Rushes, Loughborough. A great beer. Amber brown, lively, with a smooth, clean, malt, slightly hoppy taste.

UPDATED: MAY 28, 2008 Cask at Red Lion, Long Compton, Warwickshire. Dark amber colour with a firm, creamy head. The aroma was of malt with overtones of grassy hops. Taste is malty with some fruit. A smooth, medium-bodied pint with a slight, pleasant bitterness. Overall a top beer. 28.5.08 Cask at Green Man, Trumpington, Cambridge. rated 6,4,6,4,14:3.4. Not so impressed this time round. Gentle sweet berry fruit in aroma. Malty taste and mid bitter finish.

Hand pulled at the Sadlers Arms, Solihull, West Midlands. Delicious beer - all round good stuff. Rich, malty flavour: fudge, chocolate and berry. Smooth, full, refreshing and creamy. Thick, ice cream lacing, and a deep chestnut colour, with a tasty caramel aroma. V. v. good.

a bit like the 2eme or 3eme GC Bordeaux .... everything is perfectly balanced and smooth ... no rough edges no lumps and bumps ... if you are looking for a perfectly executed medium bodied fruity ale ... this might come close to your best bet ...

I had the cask version originally and entered it under the bottled version. Cask @ Buckeye Brewing 3-20-04. Wow, this was nice. Brown color, thick tan head with lacing. Extremely smooth and pleasing on the palate. Caramel malty notes balanced perfectly.

Draught. An excellent beer, nice fruity taste. Fairly strong, but a good session beer. Adnams best beer for sure.

Great English style ESB. I thought I hadn’t had this beer before, yet as I sat down and started sipping on it my mind went right back to the pub in London where I first tried it. Even the tap handle came back to mind sharing simular graphics as the label. Little to no head as to be expected. Deed amber iin color. Nice rich malt caracter of high lovlibond caramel malts. Clean refreshing well balanced bitterness. Very drinkable with an alcohol content that will keep me happy.
