My first Adnams beer and it is quite good. Malty sweetness in every sip. Some metallic and spicy notes to stop it from becoming a sugary overload and a hint of hops.

Aroma is rich malty fruit, raisin, plum, cherry. Gorgeous burgundy ruby brown. Crystal clear. Small head. Taste is deep dark fruit malt. Plum, raisin, cherry, biscuit. Bit of roast. Hint of medicinal. Hops bitterness present but a malt driven beer. Palate is medium full. Maybe a hint heavy. Possibly a bit more carbonation or hop bitterness for my taste. Overall a good beer. Could use a bit more balance. If this was brightened or crisped up a bit it could be much better IMO.

Serving: 500 ml. bottle from State Line Liquors. it pours a dark red color with a large, light tan head of foam. The nose has light apple and nondescript fruit notes. There is a little malt sweetness. The flavor has an off metallic note that does not blend well with the earthy bitterness. Some apple, caramel, and bread notes too. Medium bodied with soft carbonation leading to a fruity finish. Servicable I suppose, but not worth seeking out.

500mL bottle. Mahogany color, off-white head. Nice rocky foam. Aroma of rich malt syrup, some light dark fruit esters, oak / vanilla, dark caramel / toffee. Heavy bodied. Rich malt, toasted barley flavor. Some touch of dates, oaky tannins, light molasses and dark brown sugar, and citrus. Finishes dry, wooded bitterness. A good Winter Warmer. Distinct English-style Strong Ale, this one is big and strong. Hearty, very dominate malt character with wooded notes. Impressive. (3327)

This one Has a dark amber color when I poured it into an English pint. It has a small head that dissipates quickly. It has a sweet smell with some hint of malted barly. The flavour is citrus with a bitter finish. It is smooth acrost the palate with a carbonated tingle at the end. I like this one but I really haven’t found an English beer I haven’t liked yet!

Pours mahogany with an attractive beige head and a toffee aroma. There is a dark molasses flavor with a hint of anise and a smoothly bitter finish. Very drinkable.

Pours a dark amber with a bit of ruby redness. The aroma is bready with a hint of something sour. No sourness in the flavor though. Mostly bread, caramel, some sweet malt. It has a nice balance to it. Easy drinking and tasty.

Tasted from 1 pt 9oz bottle into nonic pint glass. It poured a dark reddish brown color with some chill haze (not sure if it was bottle fermented) with thin but persistent off-white foam and good lacing. Strong bready, malty aroma with First Gold hops: earthy, woodsy, resiny, mildly citrusy (same strain used by St Peters Organic Ale) with exquisitely fruity ale yeast esters: plums, apricots, raisins, cranberries. No trace of the elevated alcohol percentage. Profoundly rich and complex malt sweetness: toast, toffee, raisin bread, fruitcake, creamy chocolate, plum syrup, figgy pudding. Medium body, moderate carbonation. Full, creamy, and "chewy" mouthfeel with a long-lasting tangy aftertaste which eventually finished fairly dry. A classic, memorable example of Strong English Ale, with distinctly English hops, malt-bill and yeast profile. Just awesome.

An appealing hazy dark tawny amber with a light head covering and big patches of lace. It looks like a great brew. The taste is caramel toffee and malt offset by a clean floral bittering. The finish is a neat balance between the sweet and bitter. This is a big enough brew to be chewy in the mouth, but it isn’t heavy or filling. Most excellent!
