The nose is nice and malty with a nut finish, you can also detect some hop bitterness. The flavor is nice and sweet and has a minor tartness. You can taste some dark fruits but they are not overpowering. The finish is nice and bitter and that tartness stays with you for quite sometime. overall it is a nice and refreshing strong ale. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 5, 2008 This is a decent alebit lighter take on the style than I normally go for, but it is definitely sessionable at best. has some sweet fruitiness throughout with some rich caramel malt, with a hint of herbal hoppiness coming through in the finish. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 22, 2008 Pours a cloudy amber colour with a creamy biege head that retains very well and leaves good lacing. A pleasing aroma of sweet malts, noble hops and an impression of beat sugars and fig. The flavour is rich in sweet malts, dark cherries, fennel and bitter hops with a coffee-like aftertaste. The body is full and the texture is creamy. The bitterness in the aftertaste is a bit astringent, but not so much so that it ruins the beer. I leaves a nice warming down in the cocckles. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 16, 2008 Beautiful mahogany colour with a tight, thin white head. Aromas of dry german hops, yeast. Flavours of dark malt, a bit roasty and cherries with a dry spicy quality after the sweetness. This beer to me really tastes brings belgian, german and english influence togather. It’s nice. bhensonb (4242), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 15, 2008 500 ml. bottle. Strong aromas of light stone fruit and lightly roasted malt. Rich ruby amber color with a decent beige head. Near full in body with creamy carbonation. Flavors are darker fruit, lighter fruit, caramel/toffee malt, and enough floral bitter to really balance. Finish is tending towards dry, and the bitter builds a bit over time. It is really good to drink. wheresthepath (534), Buckinghamshire, England
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 15, 2008 Updated: Jan 1, 2009[500ml bottle from Sainsbury’s, Reading] 9/3/2008: Coffee, dundee cake, a well balanced bitterness. Not huge depth, but a pleasant drink - this is how dark English beer should taste (but with a killer strength in this the bottled version!). Leaves a nice warm fuzzy glow! Re-rate 31/12/2008: As above, with some orange, spice and plenty of malt too. Very slight carbonation is about right for the style. Still felt more drunk on this than on other 6% beers for some reason! yespr (12019), Copenhagen O, Denmark
