A fine, heartwarming English Beer, rich in flavours of malt and hops.

October 2007. Bottle shared by Mabel, brought back from England. Red-brown body with a modest head. Earthy malt throughout with a pleasant balancing bitterness that increases in the finish. Notes of caramel in the malt. Average palate. Very decent English ale.

Bottle brought directly to me by someone close to me while they were on holiday in London. A dark pour, nice malty, dark fruity aroma. Sweet, complex flavors of berries, currants, caramel, wood - can’t find much in the way of hops other than a supporting bitterness. Round mouth feel, finishes clean. A very well done brew.

From a 500 ml bottle presented to me by my lovely girlfriend Nancy - This brew pours a brown, fizzy brew with a very, very light tan head of foam and a weak, malty aroma. Tastewise, it’s a fine example of an English Strong Ale, with a sort of "brown ale EXTREME" character.

Thanks to kenb for the trade. Pours a mostly translucent ruby amber with a nice creamy off white lacing head. Aroma of cherry, sweet malts, toffee, some citrus, other mixed fruits and a touch of hops. Flavor of toffee, some toasted malts, a touch of hop bitterness, some citrus and a tad bit thin.

Well balanced medium-bodied, with even hops and bitterness. Although slightly watery it is easy on the palate and the soothing malts help it go down.

bottle from BOM club. overall a very nice beer. The 1/4" head lasted through most of the beer. Aroma lacking in strength a bit. Pours a deep red/amber. Wonderful aftertaste with a nice long finish. Caramel and malts are prevalent. Lighter body than I would like... pleasantly surprised with this one.

Poured a slightly hazy, ruddy brown with a short cap of tan head.. really liked the look of this one. The aroma had a nice Maris Otter-y appeal with caramel and English toffee at the forefront.. also some darker fruits and herbs as it warmed up.. enjoyed it! The flavor had toasty caramel and toffee at the core with warm dark fruits extending outward.. warm at the finish with supple malts and the right dosage of spices and herbal bitterness. Medium-bodied with very nice balance on the palate.. warm, tasty finish. Well-done!

Out of the bottle, this pours an attractive red with a light tan head. Malt dominates the aroma wth notes of varying red berries. Once again, the flavour is malty: sweet and rich with a floral hop finish. Very nice.
