Nose of malt, fruit and hops. Pours dark chestnut colored beer. Some carbonation. Mouthfeel is smooth, with chewy malts. A nice hoppy dry finish. A good beer.

Bottle (500ml). From Waitrose. Poured clear, deep ruby-amber, with a solid, lasting foamy-creamy tan head. As I had the cask version just the night before, this was very interesting for me - the aroma is fairly deep roast malt, apple and light prune, lushly grainy and enough dry floral hops to keep it from seeming overly sweet; some alcohol on the nose. The taste - even roastier, the floral hops are losing the battle, but this is a lovely caramel/light molasses malt beer with nice cool weather spice in the finish - excellent taste, enough raisin character to almost seem vinous, or even mildly port-like. Solid body, a little sticky, nice carbonation, and enough alcohol to remind you this is WAY stronger than the cask version - as quaffable as the cask is, I really prefer this in the bottle, pasteurized or not (shock: I don’t give much more than a micrometrical crap about pasteurization/non-pasteurization). Good beer!

Bottle(6%) from Hi-Time Wine. Pour a nice hazy prune color. Nose is kind of sweet. Some licorice and mabe a hint of raisin. Lightly sweet roasty flavors. Quite malty. Some English hops in there as well. Smooth creamy mouthfeel.

Bottle: Spiced aroma, some corriander and carmelized sugar notes; heavy bicuitiness with a tart finish. Quite good, actually.

Bottle. Great malty aroma with a big wallop of Fuggles and funk and a touch of alcohol. Currant and grapes. Dark copper pour, still clear, with an orange-tinged fizzy-rocky tanned head. Lightly bitter in the sessionable way, very dry bready finish with a great malt-hop balance throughout. Some salt and pepper, wood and earth. Caramel and faint toffee. Medium body, smooth feel, with floral notes – more like flower petals. A nice one.

Dark amber. Small head. I recognise mostly raisins in the aroma. A bit of sourness on the tongue. Some prums but overall a bit flat. No aftertaste.
