Pours a rich deep brown with tawny hues.
Aromas is of dark fruits, spicy, and roasty. Flavour is big heavy roasted and crystal malts, dark plum and spicy date, lightened by fine carbonation. Great Winter Warmer. islay (474), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

The beer is called "Adnams Broadside Original Ale," and it comes in a really cool bottle, I must say. "Beery" aroma contains a strong maltiness. Hazelnut and sharp lemon and orange scents. Brown-ale-esque in aroma, but stronger and more hoppy than a typical brown. Overall, the aroma is appropriately very English. Pours a deep brown with an orange tint. The shade of the color is darker toward the top and lighter toward the bottom. Large amount of thick, uneven, light tannish-cream-colored head. Produces extensive lacing. Flavor dominated by a roasted bitterness and dirty hops. Nuts and tobacco tastes as well, with a touch of raisin. Roasted bitter aftertaste. Light to medium body. Soft in the palate. Surprisingly low in carbonation, given the large head. Overall, like a cross between a porter and a bitter. Adnams Broadside is an okay but not great beer. It certainly isn’t worth the $5 or so that I paid for it post-tax. theisti (1654), Leawood, Kansas, USA

Pour is cloudy brown with a big, rocky, off brown head. Aroma is malt, fruit and hint of hops. Taste is very fruity and complex. Lost of malt, not much hop in the taste. Nice beer. patrick767 (2019), fort wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 30, 2007 bottle - Pours murky brown with a medium sized head. The aroma has lots of caramel English malts with mild hops. It has a good malty flavor that’s well balanced by the light hops. Medium bodied, this brew finishes dry and lightly bitter. This is a very enjoyable English ale. jtw (942), farmington, Michigan, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 23, 2007 12 oz bottle, which stores a liquid of deep murky brown color. A rather English aroma of pink-fleshed fruits, strawberry, maraschino cherry, roses which all seem to be a product of a wonderfully estery yeast strain. Good residual sweetness and a medium-to-full body pack a strong but subtle punch of alcohol. Nutty finish that leaves a pleasant reminder of what your palate just experienced. after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA

Big nose of slightly oxidized tree fruit, some caramel and butterscotch (doesn’t seem to be any diacetyl, but we’ll see). A little tight and sour on the mid-palate, and then a rush of fruit opens up, followed by a hollow hint of sour and some aluminum. Not super pleasant. BeerBiker (1392), Kathmandu, Nepal
