A fine, heartwarming English Beer, rich in flavours of malt and hops.

16.9oz brown bottle from Florian’s. Hazy brick-reddish/brown with around an inch of off-white head that leaves a good amount of lacing. Diacetyl plays a big part in the aroma with a fair bit of malt. Biscuit malt and earthy hops dominate the flavor with undertones of diacetyl. Very well balanced. Full flavored. Full bodied with a good amount of carbonation to support it. Drinkable as well. This is a damn good English ale. I’m quite impressed, and will deffinitely be picking this one up again.

(500 ml bottle from Systembolaget, though from April 2007 it’s not going to be delivered any more within Swedish Systembolaget) Clear dark brown to red color, tan head. Sweet borderline raissin scent, feels dark. Also some butter and alcohol. Harsh bitter taste, husky and not pleasant. Dry roasted coffee bean aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel. Low hop bitterness, but high grains bitterness, not to my liking.

bottle from my local indy, pours a very dark amber, long lasting head and lacing all the way down my skinny glass. strong malt aroma with some serious sweetness too. caramel, fruit cake and sweetness in the mouth, hints of some fruits, possibly orange. levels out to a fine dry bitterness, lingers nicely....one to buy again

Bottle. Dark amber/reddish colour with a tan head. Aroma of malt, plums & raisins. Flavour is a bit heavy with dark fruits & hops.

Deep ruby pour, slowly cascading tan head with orange swirls. Good retention and miniscule lacing. Aroma is sweet malts, toasty but buttery, currants, wood, Viognier grapes and licorice. Flavor is much the same with a bitter addition of hops and richer still malts. Mild bitterness cuts through the malts and provides a medium bodied and well rounded, balanced mouthfeel. Finishes warm, crisp and mildly spicy, dried hops lingering. Not bad, but not a very satisfying ESA.

Hops, gently burnt over a wood fire with a careful avoidance of resin impregnation. Looks sexy, nice auburn colour which, no surprise, highlights the malty qualities. Initial sweetness with a slight bitterness. Hangs around for quiet a while but not like an univited friend.

(bottle - 11.2 oz) Dark red pour with a puffy tan head. Aroma is very sweet with a nice hint of caramel, fruits, and some dry hops. Flavor is very nicely balanced. Some sweetness and malts at the beginning with a very smooth and blended middle and a very nice and crisp, bitter finish. Very smooth and leaves a nice lingering sweetness.

Delicious - sweet fruitcake aroma, strong sweet malt, citrus hops, lingering bitterness in finish, surprisingly light body for abv - extremely drinkable, will buy again.
