thornecb (1735), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Mar 21, 2007 Pours deep brown into a shaker. Offwhite micro head pancakes as it slowly recedes. Sweet malt and slight resin aromas. Malty upfront with a bitter British hop finish. HopheadHans (753), Bay Area, California, USA Mar 19, 2007 Bottle. Pours with a brown color and a huge head with alot of carbonation.
Aroams of orange and caramel. Flavors are malty, a bit astringent and the alcholo shines through in a big way. There is abit of hops in the background as well. I find it a bit off but can not put the finger on it. jeremytoni (1069), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Mar 14, 2007 Updated: Mar 16, 2007Pours dark amber, almost brown, with lots of head. Flavor that is not overwhelming, bit of a lingering taste. Maria (6056), Thisted, Denmark Mar 9, 2007 This beer has a nice brown color and a big head. The aroma is malty with nuts and fruits, just like the powerful flavour that also has notes of hops that suddenly explodes in an burst of bitterness that quickly fades out into a more ordinary bitterness. The alcohol is not detectable in the flavour. This is a very nice beer! ekstedt (2411), Göteborg, Sweden Mar 5, 2007 Bottle. Deep reddish amber to copper coloured, large beige head. Deep, fruity malt aroma with some burnt sugar, and herbal hops. Medium mouthfeel. Flavour is initially sweet, with a clear but not overwhelming touch of alcohol, and the finish is very bitter. A bit plain for such a strong beer. dkoonce (880), People’s Republic of Athens, Ohio, USA Mar 3, 2007 Bottle. Cloudy, amber-brown with an orange-white head that stands like stiff peaks. The aroma is floral over heavy roasted malts. Medium body, with a sweet malt flavor that finishes quite flat. Dezzilu (211), Whitmore Lake, Michigan, USA Mar 3, 2007 A nice dark amber color with a thin white lacing. The smell is hops, hops, hops, but unfortunately not much else. Flavor is plentiful, but I think normal for this style. Finish was smooth with a hint of bitter. In short, a completley one dimensional beer. But it is exactly as described, ’A fine, heartwarming English Ale’. Cheers. bitbucket (2026), Kirkland, Washington, USA Mar 1, 2007 Bottle from Malt of the Earth beer club. Pours a clear coppery amber with an off-white head. Spicy aroma with some sweet malt behind it. Medium body with fine carbonation. The alcohol comes to the fore, in a fusil, malt-liquor-like attack. The taste is sweet and has some fruit, citrus and nutty notes. Spicy and somewhat dry finish. The bitterness shows up in the aftertaste.
