A fine, heartwarming English Beer, rich in flavours of malt and hops.

From bottle. Struck by a strong aroma of syrup and malt. Deep reddish brown appearance with a decent enough head. Quite smooth to drink, thick syrup flavour that reminded me of liquorice. Overall a tasty ale with a bitter finish. Felt like a winter ale to me.

Bottle from John’s Market drunk during a round of golf at Skamania Lodge in Stevenson WA. Very dark and malty. Dark flavours went well on a slightly cool afternoon under the sun.

Nice dark cherry colored body, with a small off-white head. Good caramel and malts in the aroma, very smooth. Nice body, sharp malts and hops combine with some dark fruit accents (cherry, currant). Nice dry ending.

Pours a dark brown color with a medium tan head. Aroma is of chocolate, toffee, dark fruits, molasses, and some sweet malts. Flavor is the same stronger on the dried fruit and molasses flavor. Wasn’t sure what I was going to think of this one but was surprised, not a bad brew at all.

Bottle at Beer on the Pier, Chicago brought by Shelton Bros. Strong alcohol aroma with molasses. Cloudy dark amber color and slightly off-white head. Stronger and more flavorful than the Adnams Suffolk SSB. Pretty darn good, actually. I could see myself really enjoying a pint of this at an English pub. Good stuff.
