| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 4, 2005 Pours a cloudy dark brown with a foamy tan head. Aroma is oak, earthy fruits, with some sweet toffee maltiness. Taste is sweetish, raisin (special b?), toffee, toasted malts. Medium bodied with mild carbonation. Tastes slightly oxidized. Good, but not great. Dough77 (773), Aurora, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Nov 2, 2005 Pour is cloudy mild brown with descent head. Flavor is tremendous, great toffee, buttery caramel, sweetness, raisins, and again a candy from my childhood that I just cant place, but its delightful. Flavor drops off just a bit in the excitment of the aroma, but just a tad. Ovearll a wonderful beer, glad I got 2 more to consume. beeriodic (61), Longmont, Colorado, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 2, 2005 Pours a hazy, copper color. Decent tan head. Malty nose. Woody and very complex flavor. Buttery yeast notes are there, like in a Yorkie beer. Starts a bit sweet, but finishes dryer. The bitterness asserts itself at the end. It feels like a bigger beer than it is, which is great, since many porters and stouts are somewhat thin... this one’s thick and yummy. Nice brew. MesandSim (5819), London, Greater London, England
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 21, 2005 A Mes rate:
Creamy nose with dark fruits (raspberry and blackberry) and hints of spruce / pine. Amazing red-brown looks. Kinda like a kriek but darker. Only thing that gives it away looks wise is the chunky off white head which lasts well and leaves a reasonable amount of lacing. There is also slight sweetness in the nose now it has warmed a little. Flavour is semi- sweet with hints of raspberry and cream and slight iron filings. Plenty of hops and a little sweet malt. Finish is lengthy with lots of hoppy bitterness. A little too much at first but it mellows out into something more palatable. SledgeJr (2960), Omaha, Nebraska, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 20, 2005 In the bottle at the Crescent Moon. Pours a mahogany red with a white head. Unique medicinal aroma with fruity and bitter essence. Flavor is as rich as a barleywine without the mind-bending alcohol content. Full body with sweetness and a residual strong bitter bite. I like. bridge (659), Sydney, Australia
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 13, 2005 Slightly hazy dark ruby brown with a large, persistent beige head. Initial fruity apple aroma gives way to a smooth creamy caramel nut base, and as it warms some peppery alcohol. Lovely persistent bitterness consistent with good pommy ales, and some of that caramel comes through as satisfying sweetness. The body is a bit light considering, although the carbonation is at a delicious median. A lasting bitterness has you appreciating this beer for quite a while after placing the glass down. Quite a good drop.
