| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 25, 2005 Pours a clear, dark copper with a medium beige head that doesn’t last. Toffee malts and a hint of fruit aroma, with sweet toffee dominating the palate and a nicely hopped bitter finish. I finally picked out a faint berry flavour hidden in there, but only after I was more than half finished (proper temperature maybe?). Overall really nice. Pailhead (2583), Allen Park, Michigan, USA

Flavor is very sweet up front with a mostly sweet, but slightly tart, raspberry flavor and some toffee that comes into play just before the lightly floral bitter finish. Roasty and wineous, toffeeish-malty aroma. Fruity, somewhat roasty, lightly wineous, pleasantly hoppy flavor with licorice and rosemary hints. Medium-bodied, sweetish, very smooth and sophisticated palate with low carbonation. A very nice and tasty, roasty and malty, easily drinkable ale. hammenlind (738), Sundbyberg, Sweden

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 15, 2005 I like this label...very colorful, brash, and sporty.....it almost makes me sport wood. The pour is hazy deep copper....the copper of a worn down penny rather than a new one. It is definitely not deep red. The aroma is caramel malt, figs, brown sugar, some hops, scotch. Tastes very caramel malty, with a great dark fruity/figgy presence, some hops, and some port. Very complex, solid balance, and a really good brew. One cannot deny the greatness of this beer. Dark ruby color, good tanned head. Aroma has oak, hops, licorice and toffee - it’s even slightly earthy. Medium to full-bodied, bitter woody flavor. Some licorice hints. A bit similar to some Fullers (1845 etc).
