bitter (1137), Henderson, Nevada, USA Mar 10, 2005 dark dampness passes to withering sulfa smell. redish hue and clear. some slight fruit and bitter qualites in the backbone of the beer. easy to drink. uninteresting. cfranz (261), Acton, Massachusetts, USA Mar 9, 2005 Poured dark brown, light white head. Smelled somewhat musty. Kind of an offputting burnt malt taste. I am not a big fan of this beer. stouby (1932), Holbaek, Denmark Mar 6, 2005 Bottle, at home.
Dark red with lareg off-white head, quickly gone. Good lacings. Unfiltered. Aroma sweet fruity and spicy. Flavor first sweet of malt, then changing to more bitterness of hops and yet fruity. Long finish. Well balanced. Medium body, oily, soft carbonation. JayBaxter (386), Greater Manchester, Greater Manchester, England Feb 19, 2005 Nice deep red colour, but an off-putting almost cat litter aroma.Once you get past the smell the taste has a nice fruit quality, sweet with a bitter palate. Its quite good, but its not the beer for me! sethdude (600), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Jan 29, 2005 Yeah. Pours a rich red/brown color, somewhat hazy, very, very slight head. Aroma is sweet and fruity. Pears, grape, and sweet malts. Flavor is rich and full, tart and sweet to start, lots of medium to dark fruit flavors, slight spiciness, then gives way to a moment of alcohol, then mellows with a great balance of hops and malts, toffee and slight peppery flavors are followed by a bitter dry finish. Nice complexity. Stew41 (1042), Caulfield, Australia Jan 29, 2005 Medium brown with a slight red tinge. Red wine, porty , a little stewed fruit on the nose. Shows good depth. Feels a little hot from the alcohol lift but not a particularly strong beer at 6.3%.
Shows good balance in the mouth with dark malty characters (not roasted) and again some heat. Finishes a touch bitter (e.g extracted in wine parlance) leaving the beer ever so slightly disjointed. scotty (828), Scotland Jan 20, 2005 Lovely burnt gold colour, firm white head, looks very appealling. Malty nose with hoppy aromas creeping through. This is a big beer with a multitude of flavours, but remains well balanced. There is a long lingering finish, a very satisfying brew. Very complex, but drinks easily for 6.3% ~ DELICIOUS Jedsbrew (465), Rhineland, Missouri, USA Jan 12, 2005 Poured a dark ruby/copper color with a modest head and a fruity aroma-plums, citrus and maybe a hint of alcohol. Medium bodied, sweet and malty, a little toasty with flavors of dried fruit, berries, cherries and a touch of vanilla or butterscotch. Underlying hoppy bitterness expanded in the lingering finish. Not really a sipper but a fairly substantial ale and quite tasty.
