Malty nose with hoppy aromas creeping through. This is a big beer with a multitude of flavours, but remains well balanced. There is a long lingering finish, a very satisfying brew. Very complex, but drinks easily for 6.3% ~ DELICIOUS Jedsbrew (465), Rhineland, Missouri, USA

Medium bodied, sweet and malty, a little toasty with flavors of dried fruit, berries, cherries and a touch of vanilla or butterscotch. Underlying hoppy bitterness expanded in the lingering finish. Not really a sipper but a fairly substantial ale and quite tasty. highlandlad (1258), Sydney, Australia

Fabulously inviting rummy aroma, bursting with fruit (green apples?) Medium-bodied and very smooth for the abv (6.3%). Dark malt and raisin notes and a big warming finish. Fine winter drinking. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 1, 2005 A strong and tasty above-average English ale performing well in the bottle. Aroma of medium dark malt, medium-body hops, and slight honey. Aftertaste of Dawn detergent (this may be my fault) but overall solid. I would try this again. ThomasE (5178), Copenhagen, Denmark

Subtle malt aroma. The first thing that hits you is the extra strength - rooty and chewy - followed by a sweet, pillowy, marshmallow flavour. Warming on the throat and a honey-malt aftertaste. Noticeable abv hit. Pretty good, though I prefer the less strong version. Muggus (193), Sydney, Australia
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 17, 2004 I get a wiff of berry like fruitiness, alcohol and malt on the nose. Clear redish amber body with tan lacing atop. Solid body of flavour. Big hit of roasted malt and bitter hops. Hints of dark fruit and spice come through also. A touch of alcohol warmth tops off this fine ale. Definately worth a try. mrbrownale (7), Denmark does not count | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 16, 2004 Nice fruity taste. I think I can taste some blackcurrant notes in the background of a good malt/hop balance. Nice ale
