Oct 23, 2008 (Bottle 50 cl) Hazy reddish amber with an off-white head. Aroma of nuts and overripe fruit. Quite full-bodied with sweetish roasted malts, nuts and overripe fruit. Hints of wood and alcohol and a fairly bitter finish. Actually this mostly reminds me of a British style Old Ale. 290908

Oct 22, 2008 Updated: Sep 11, 2009Bottled 50cl. It pours a beautiful beer which leaves a nice lacework. My nose was a bit blocked when sampling this one. Malty with some rasins showing up. Decent - but definetely nothing too exciting. Rerate pending.

Oct 21, 2008 Bottle - 500ml. Dark brown hazy body with a nice, lasting beige foamy head. Well balanced malty/hoppy aroma with oaky and toffee hints. Its hoppy taste is sharp and robust. It carries some roastiness and woodiness and hides the alcohol pretty well. Ends with a long and strong bitter finish. Excellent example of English Strong Ale.

Oct 19, 2008 Bottle. Eye-catching red/brown appearance. Fairly big aroma is dominated by molasses, plus accents of coffee, demerara, butter, roasted nuts and caramel. Toffee palate has an appropriate chewy mouthfeel. Nice molasses flavour and nutty finish. Very nice.

Poors dark brown/amber. Head is light. billowy and lasting with a nutty brown tinge. Aroma is dark fruit, particularly raisins. Malty, spices and hops are also present. Medium mouth feel. A strong bitterness complemented by caramel, raisin and cherry (probably some other "Christmas fruits" I am not identifying). Finishes nice and hoppy!

Oct 10, 2008 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Sigmund. Dark brownish amber colored. Tall fluffy head with a nice tan. Beautiful toffee-ish malt aroma with ripe berries, raisins and some herbal/peppery hop notes. Taste has a high malt level; straightforward, light sweet and caramellish. Dark fruits and berries, and a distinct, earthy bitterness in the backbone. Medium to full body. Chewy texture. Slight sourish-fruity, malty-bitter ending. Well-crafted and moreish.

Oct 7, 2008 Bottle from the LCBO. Pours a nutty and slightly hazy ruby-brown colour with a medium sized tan head. Aroma brings to mind the Christmas holidays, with notes of plum pudding, caramel and candied fruit, along with sweet toasted malt. Full mouthfeel, and a flavour that starts with the rich sweetness expected based on the aroma, but also has some lingering hops and a slight alcohol warmth in the finish to add a pleasantly bitter counterpoint. A really nice autumn/winter ale.

Oct 5, 2008 Bottle (500ml ). Pours a hazy amber-brown with a long lasting creamy off-white head. Aroma of earthy malt, slightly toasted, sweet fruit, floral hops, light chocolate and alcohol. Malty flavour with some alcohol coming through along with spices, dark fruit, caramel and a good amount of hops in the finish. Medium bodied. Sticky mouthfeel. Very good stuff, glad I have more.
