TomDecapolis (2389), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 5, 2007 Thanks to kenb for the trade. Pours a mostly translucent ruby amber with a nice creamy off white lacing head. Aroma of cherry, sweet malts, toffee, some citrus, other mixed fruits and a touch of hops. Flavor of toffee, some toasted malts, a touch of hop bitterness, some citrus and a tad bit thin.
Chrism86 (40), Melbourne, Australia Aug 15, 2008 Appears an auburn/brown with a small tan head that dissipates in no time. The trademark caramel/toffee of the style is present with some fruit and nut nuances. Palate delivers more of the same with nutty malt dominating early to give way to some piney notes and medium hop bitterness rounding out the back palate.
tupalev (2285), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 13, 2008 Bottle sample, TFOB ’08. Great malty aroma, lots of spice and some alcohol. Taste follows, more chewy malt, strong ESB like hops and a roasty finish. Dark orange/brown a good sized white head. A nice sipper that tastes stronger than it is - cannot wait to get my hands on more of these. Gary__ (72), London, Greater London, England Aug 10, 2008 Updated: Aug 12, 2008.Big powerful malty beer. An old man beer ,I reckon. This 20-something liked it too. . It looks complex before you’ve drank it -if that makes sense. A beer not disimilar to Fullers 1845. Liquid fruit cake. Burnt chocolatey raisin palate. I liked the backdrop of spicy dry hops. The maltiness becomes a bit cloying in the finish. A recommended dark ale. wcampbell (411), Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 27, 2008 Decent, almost all malt beer. Nice caramel nutty flavor to it. Kind of fruity as well with some dark fruit flavors. Not much for hops, but that is expected. Nothing really stands out, but it is a pretty drinkable beer overall. tarjei (1131), Bryne, Norway Jul 20, 2008 50 cl bottle, bought at Tesco, Liverpool. Brown color, nice big beige head. Aroma is fruity. Flavor is fruity with malt, hints of hops, caramel sweetness and a bitter finish.
