Jun 21, 2005 (Bottled) Very hazy, darkish red color with a medium, tanned head. Roasty and wineous, toffeeish-malty aroma. Fruity, somewhat roasty, lightly wineous, pleasantly hoppy flavor with licorice and rosemary hints. Medium-bodied, sweetish, very smooth and sophisticated palate with low carbonation. A very nice and tasty, roasty and malty, easily drinkable ale.

May 9, 2004 This is a wonderful all round brew.Nice ruby red colour with a thin head.Lovely rich malty fruity flavour with a nice bittersweet aftertaste.A quaffable beer indeed.

Dark ruby color, good tanned head. Aroma has oak, hops, licorice and toffee - it’s even slightly earthy. Medium to full-bodied, bitter woody flavor. Some licorice hints. A bit similar to some Fullers (1845 etc).

Oct 21, 2008 Bottle - 500ml. Dark brown hazy body with a nice, lasting beige foamy head. Well balanced malty/hoppy aroma with oaky and toffee hints. Its hoppy taste is sharp and robust. It carries some roastiness and woodiness and hides the alcohol pretty well. Ends with a long and strong bitter finish. Excellent example of English Strong Ale.

Dec 21, 2006 The smell was quite sweet. Beer had a delicious hop flavor and a great amount. Sweet enough to take a bit of the edge off the hops. Texture is still mildly watery, but not enough to be unpleasant.

Mar 23, 2006 Honey-hazed, mahogany/brown with a creamy, khaki head that ends as ilsands and thick lace. Aroma profile similar to the <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/adnams-suffolk-s but not quite as sharp, enhanced by a caramel malt presence. Buttery mouth with mid-bodied fullness. A sweet edge of caramel complements the bitterness of English hopping. Savory to finish. Very good.
