wheresthepath (216), Buckinghamshire, England May 16, 2008 [500ml bottle from Tesco’s, Reading] A great moment for me - by typing up this beer I’ve finally got all the beers from the spreadsheet I’ve updated over the last 6 months onto this database! And this was a decent beer to celebrate with - it claims to be the first carbon-neutral beer in the UK, and I’m not about to argue with a company that has turfed over the roof of its admin building and organises regular litter collections on the local beach! However, it does mean that this beer is a (very) few pence more than the others in their range. A large white head quickly dissipates leaving a dark golden beer with a soft yet mouth-tingling carbonation. Aroma and initial taste is the classic Adnams maltiness tempered with overtones of orange. A refreshing bitterness creeps gently in, but on the whole this is sweeter than the other beers in the Adnams range. A very easy drinking beer (couldn’t believe how fast the bottle vanished!) yet one that leaves behind a warm comforting feeling. I love Adnams beers anyway, and this one seems to be one of their best yet. Clearly the whole environmental drive has not been at the expense of their product, so nice one guys! berkshire_john (1048), Bracknell, Berkshire, England May 6, 2008 500ml bottle from Tesco. Golden with a thick billowing white head; biscuit and dusty hop aroma;hoppy citrus flavours, with a pleasant rounded malt sweetness, and an insistant underlying bitter finish. Very drinkable indeed. harrisoni (5121), Ashford, Kent, England May 1, 2008 500ml bottle from Tesco. Biscuit and subtle citrus hop and a bit of dusty hop on aroma. I think I like this. The hops are zingy and sherberty. Really rather hoppy for a UK bottled beer. Might need a second bottle for a better idea. I like it, especially this fresh lime hop finish. johndoughty (1614), cheslyn hay, West Midlands, England May 23, 2008 Bottle.Cant help feel that the carbon neutral approach on this beer is just a way of atracting attention to what is really a farly boring beer.Orange appearance with a slightly sharp preesnce of carbohnation.Short bitter flavour.Might be environmentally fiendly but thiis does’t make it any better than any mumber of run iof the mill bitters.Try and forget. DruncanVeasey (1612), Burbage, Leicestershire, England Jul 8, 2008 This actually holds up quite well as a beer, and not just a concept. Inviting lemon and lime jelly aroma developing a rub of hopleaf and the faintest whiff of barnyard. Suits me fine. Clean, lemony and grassy with some nutty pale malt and maize-like softness on the end. Hops present, quenching and good. It’s a ludicrous comparison, but Westy Blond springs to mind. Prefer it to some of Adnams cask bitters. Way better than expected.
