Cask at The Wellington, Birmingham. Clear light golden with a big foamy head. Very unusual with perfume in both the scent and mouth. Grapefruit and malts. Not bad at all.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAY 2, 2012
August Bank Holiday 2006, Sole Bay Inn, across the green from the brewery. Served in the new Adnams, tall pint glass (don’t like them).
Paler than the normal bitter, but a lot darker than Regatta, a kind of light brown, with a rusty blonde thrown in. It looks good.
Aroma of malt and fruits, but the table next to me have fish and chips delivered (good but expensive), so unable to assertain which fruits were coming to the fore!
Good bitter taste and after taste, better than some 4.3% I could mention. Not heavy to the mouth, but there is body to it, I drank it in large gulps, I would have had another, but I was on a mission, so couldn’t.
Reading a few of the other reviews, it would appear some were disappointed, that is a shame, because drinking it in Southwold is a joy. I just hope the unimpressed get another chance to try it, and it is more true to its normal self.

Pint at the Bucks Head in Camden, London. Golden yellow with a dense white head. Grapefruit and cinder toffee in the aroma, and the grapefruit is the predominant flavour. Soft carbonation, and creamy mouth feel. A great refresher after trolling round Camden Market. I considered adding the pub to places, but it only had three fairly common real ales. However judging by this, they keep a good pint, and the sandwiches were nice too. Pity about the barmaid with the memory of a goldfish though.
3.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 worldbeertaste (612) - Lancashire, ENGLAND - APR 4, 2012
Light golden yellow with a light orange tint abd a thin frothy white head. Smells of malt, corn, citrus hops and a light biscuit. Medium, thin slightly frothy body. Taste of sweet corn, caramel and fruit with a sourbitter hop grass finish. Some citrus and apple. Not bad but I didn’t get very excited.

Cask at Blue Boar, Billericay. Pours a glorious light amber with a bright golden edge and a thin white head. Good lacing down the glass. Zesty lemon and oily grapefruit peel aromas play around the nose. Light and smooth over the tongue. There is more of the slightly oily grapefruit in the taste which fills the mouth before lemon zests bursts through with a soft creaminess too, and becomes more apparent further down the glass. The grapefruit in the finish has a little coriander seed orange flavour which balances it well. A beer that majors on grapefruit peel, it is a wonderful accompaniment to a spicy noodle dish with a citrus smoothness that invigorates, smooths and lightly cuts through the palate.

Cask at the Royal Oak, Brentford. Deep gold with a lasting mid-coarse white head. Nice citrus-and-fruit hoppy nose. Initial malty and faintly sweet body expands with dry and peachy-floral-bitter hops and a touch of dried grass, before a dry grapefruity finish.

Tasted this in the Courtyard, Earls Court, London. Cask handpump dispense. Cloudy straw in colour with a tight thin white head. Tart lemon drops in the short aroma. Thin mouthfeel and good lacing. Citric overtones to the pale malt base with lemon peel, fresh cut grass and gooseberry notes coming through. Peppery hops add a resiny bite to the aftertaste. Finish is sweet and dry. Another decent addition to the Adnams portfolio.
