Ghost Ship is a ghostly pale ale which takes its inspiration from Adnams 600-year-old haunted pub, The Bell. Brewed with a selection of malts - Pale Ale, Rye Crystal and Cara. We use Citra, and a blend of other American hop varieties to create some great citrus flavours.

Can 440 ml from Bier-Bienne (CH). Luminous amber with a compact off-white head forming laces. Citrusy hoppy aromas, acidulity, fruity malt and vanilla. The taste is soft, malted, caramel, vanilla, biscuity with notes of herbs and citrus. Nice balance between sweetness and bitter. The final bitter is delicate, tropical and of citrus on gummy texture.

Can - pours clear pale orange with a big white head. Clementine, elderflower, soap and ever so slightly skunky. Taste is very thin up front with some sweetness progressing into a dry finish. Mouthfeel is a bit on the thin side too.

From 340 ml can. Pours a completely clear gold-amber with a thick, lasting white head and moderate carbonation. Aromas of orange juice and zest, caramel, lemon and a hint of pepper. Taste is more muted, with very gentle citrus up front before a crisp hop note appears. Clean finish with a softly fruity aftertaste. A bit watery and could do with the hops being dialled up a touch. Not bad but not too exciting.

Bottle 50cl, a clear golden beer with medium head. Nose is on pine and resin hops, slightly lemony. Aroma is on caramel, hops resin, honey, toasted, excellent bitterness with good duration, grassy, earthy, good body, tasty, pine finish too, pleasant and simple.

Pours a crystal clear orange with a foamy white head. Nose is fresh citrus, pineapple. Flavour is orange, bitter throughout the palate in a fairly classic British style. Very rounded mouthfeel as is normal for British ales. Standard, a little disappointing.

BB 13 Jan 15. Poured a clear pale golden colour with a one- to two-finger white frothy head that retained well and laced OK. Carbonation medium with medium sized bubbles. Aroma of citrus and a hint of malt. Taste dominated by biting tart bitterness. Light body. Smooth initially but develops a long unsavoury tarty hops bitterness. Unusual.

Can. Golden amber with an inch of white head. Some grapefruit, but mainly dusty orange hop aromas. A little bit toasty, some peach. Medium bodied, highish carbonation. Bittersweet with stone fruit, gently toasty malt, lots of citrus peel. Quite dry and fairly bitter at the end. Very English despite the use of American hops. Pleasant enough.

Aroma is mainly hops. Some citrus, earthiness. Taste is light crystal malts mostly consumed by a fair amount of bitterness. It finishes with some tanginess but not too over powering. Appearance is a clear gold with a thin pearl head that retains fairly poorly.
