COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Occasional.
Originally brewed exclusively in cask form for a JDWetherspoon beer festival, but has appeared occasionally since.
Ruby in colour, with the use of four malts, giving toffee, chocolate and spicy flavours, plus a slight sweetness which is balanced by the hop bitterness. Hops used: Boadicea, Styrian Goldings

Cask handpull at Samuel Peto, Jdw, Folkestone. I enjoyed this in bottle, so I was interested in it on cask. Yes, still a veery solid better than average best brown bitter. Good toffee and fruity malt. I like it.

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Dark chestnut with white head. A bitter type of mild, roasted malt, a little fruity with some hop and caramel toffee, however there is a rubbery, wet tyre note in the cask version that I never got in the bottled which was a little off putting. Average.

[Gravity cask at Back of Beyond, Reading] Pours deep amber-ruby (pale for a modern mild) with a slight white head. Tastes of caramel and malt and buttered toast, but with bitterness in the finish that (although only moderate) is a little too strong for the flavours. Felt a little watery. Overall it’s OK, but a little disappointing coming from one of my favourite brewers. c7

Cask at standing order (JDW) in ’Spoons Real Ale Festival, April ’09 ...copper ... bubbly light tan head ... light sweet malt nose... musty light malt front ... light spicy hop ... soft mouthfeel ... light hop linger..
