austone (999), Turku; Pori, Finland Oct 27, 2009 50cl bottle at Mallaskukko, Turku. Slightly hazy amber, mostly disappearing tiny pale head. Loads of sweet toffee, grapefruit and spiciness on the nose, bready malts, hints of bacon later on, solid Americano feel actually. Flavor has sweetish toasty and caramelly malts, piney and spicy hops, little citric fruits, mildly resiny bitterness. Medium bodied, low carbonation. Enjoyable, like that hop profile and caramel combo. bb (2905), Martinez, California, USA Oct 16, 2009 Bottle. Amber beer with an off-white head. Malty, nice citrus/pine/earthy hop aroma. malt and caramel flavor with grapefruit, pine, woodsiness, and earthiness. Medium bodied. Caramel lingers with grapefruit, pine, earth, and woodsiness. Nice. tlind2 (560), Helsinki, Finland Sep 25, 2009 500 ml bottle. Golden color, frothy white head. Hoppy aroma with fruity notes. Lengthy hoppy flavor, with hints of resin and lemon, some alcohol in the finish. Full body, medium-light carbonation. Sigmund (2197), Hafrsfjord, Norway Sep 18, 2009 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.7%. Hops are Boadicea, Styrian Goldings and Columbus. Deep golden colour, moderate white head. Pleasant hoppy aroma, also notes of fruits, hints of honey, toffee and blackcurrant leaves. The well rounded flavour has a nice balance between distinct malts and pleasant hops, some fruity sweetness, honeyish notes, the alcohol is noticeable but not disturbing. Moderately bitter aftertaste. Good beer. JK54B (913), Helsinki, Finland Sep 18, 2009 Pale head. Mild hoppy nose. Pale golden colour. Quite sift malty and hoppy taste. Aromatic taste. At the end hoppiness. Lacey leavin head. Warming alcohol. FatPhil (3449), Espoo, Finland Sep 14, 2009 500ml bottle (Alko)
Rich amber, tiny persistent head. Sweet citrussy fruity aroma - lovely hops, but might promise too much sweetness. Smooth silky palate, carbonation moderate. Citrussy, lemon, hop restronasals. Malts a touch caramalty and sweet, bitterness quite mouth-filling - a tingle remains on the tongue for a while. Something disturbs me, but I can’t put my finger on it. It could be that it’s so un-Adnams-like that’s surprising me. Then again, they have hit rock bottom recently, so it’s better to bounce up in this direction than to stay with the tasteless other stuff they’ve made recently. Long finish has graperfruit and lemon. Darn it - Adnams have made a good beer again. Rather simple and sweet, but heck - it’s got flavour like their beers of yore - horrah! ChristianScheffel (4431), Odense, Denmark Sep 12, 2009 Amber with a lasting white head. Aroma of caramel, with American-like citrus hop notes. Dry, hoppy flavour with a good bitterness. MesandSim (5790), London, Greater London, England Aug 11, 2009 A Mes rate: bottle at the ever brilliant Chris O’s Pre GBBF Extravaganza. I’ve had a fair few decent bottled Adnams beers recently, this was another one. Intriguingly hoppy is a good description. They’re not in your face but you certainly know they are there. Bright and citric, good earthy malt underneath. Well balanced and not a hint of alcohol. Good stuff.
