COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottled; Occasional. Originally brewed as a one off to celebrate the opening of our new brewhouse and our new distribution centre, we have decided to repeat the beer again in 2009. It came first in its class at the 2008 World beer awards and has also won a Gold medal at the 2008 BBI (British Bottlers Institute) awards. The beer was created under the direction of our Chairman, Jonathan Adnams, whose instruction was to ‘Brew something to wow me’. The beer, our version of an American IPA, is brewed with a blend of Wheat and Pale ale malts to give a spicy, biscuity undertone to the beer, but it is in the hops where the beer really shines. A blend of hops from England, Slovenia and America (namely Boadicea, Columbus and Stryian Goldings) combine to give a wonderful grapefruit and tropical fruit aroma and bitterness that is balanced by the sweetness of the barley.

Bottle, 0.50l. Clear deep golden color with small frothy off-white head, good lacing and average sparkling appearance. Aroma of citrus, lychee, banana, mild malt and herbs. Taste starts with moderate sweet malty and fruity, following is refreshing herbal, mouthfeel is quite crisp and dry, while finish is heavy bitter with long aftertaste. Full body, thick texture and average carbonation in palate. Excellent balance between malts and hops...

Tried as Marks & Spencer Southwold Winter IPA in 500ml bottle. Golden colour with white head. Hop and fruity aroma, and almost sweet taste. Well balanced, and easy to drink for the strength.

Bottle from Yamaichi. Nicely hoppy nose, English, I would guess Fuggles and GOldings, but pretty full, with notes of tobacco, hay, stone fruits, and a bit of caramel, just a touch, with hoeny malts. Clear amber-orange with a low, lacy head. Hoppy falvor, golden malts, honey, peach, tobacco, grass. Very flavorful and dry, with prickly, peppery hop finish. Light, crisp body. Love to drink a beer like this, a real English IPA.

Bottle from Tesco’s. Pours slightly hazy deep gold. Little carbonation and head. Full hop aroma: grass, white grape and gooseberry. Crisp bitterness throughout the taste profile, flavours carry through impeccably. Adnams make some fantastic beers, and this is no exception.

Above average English ale. Debatable on whether it’s an IPA or not. To be obvious, not very innovative. It is a good beer with good aromas and flavours, not a world beater by any means. Citrus, grass, aniseed, toffee. Hazy golden pour with a white head. Enjoyable and refreshing.

Tesco bottle. Decent spiky hop bottle nose.Faded orange colour. Tightly filtered. Forward restrained hop start supported by decent acidity. Glossy off white head. Hop bitterness is herbal, a bit oily & lightly spicy. A pleasant surprise.
