COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottled; Occasional. Originally brewed as a one off to celebrate the opening of our new brewhouse and our new distribution centre, we have decided to repeat the beer again in 2009. It came first in its class at the 2008 World beer awards and has also won a Gold medal at the 2008 BBI (British Bottlers Institute) awards. The beer was created under the direction of our Chairman, Jonathan Adnams, whose instruction was to ‘Brew something to wow me’. The beer, our version of an American IPA, is brewed with a blend of Wheat and Pale ale malts to give a spicy, biscuity undertone to the beer, but it is in the hops where the beer really shines. A blend of hops from England, Slovenia and America (namely Boadicea, Columbus and Stryian Goldings) combine to give a wonderful grapefruit and tropical fruit aroma and bitterness that is balanced by the sweetness of the barley.

Bottle from Adnams Cellar and Kitchen, Holt, Norfolk. Rebranded (I think) as Jack Brand Innovation. Crystal clear, coppery, gold colour. Minimal, white head. Aroma is dirty, herbal, cardboardy hops. Taste is honey sweet, then grapefruit dry. Oily palate. Long finish. A little odd. Possibly not in the best nick. Still enjoyed it though.

Bottle, 6.7%. Fruity hop aroma. Cloudy golden colour. Small white head. The flavour is sweet to begin with, then turns more hoppy. Has a good clean fruity hop flavour. Has a good alcohol level to balance the sweetness.

Pours a light gilden colour and slightly foggy. Head is medium with small lacing. Aroma is pineapple and exotic fruits with hints of hops. Body is sweeter but not too sweet. A nice balance of fruityness and hoppyness. Aftertaste is dry and very hoppy that lingers a small while. Very good IPA that isn’t the classic hop bomb but has a sonewhat more fruity body.

500nl bottle from M&S. Thin white head disappears quickly with barely any lacing, clear amber body. Nose of grass, a little citrus, brown sugar. Flavour is grassy hops, some tropical fruit, peach. Some nice malty sweetness. Not a great deal of bitterness. Medium carbonation, fills the mouth well. Pretty tasty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy

maekchu (1943) - Hirakata, JAPAN - DEC 9, 2013
Bottle from Asahiya. Nose of grapefruit rind, citrus fruit tree blossoms, with good caramel backing. Medium dark straw color. Mild citrusy initial flavor, expanding to a very nice mix of citrus and sweet malt balance. Medium body. Very tasty. Plays with balance in a teasing and eventually satisfying way. Like it.

A pleasant change from the straight-up regular IPA. Has a taste/after-taste I’m still getting to know...

Appearance: Clear amber with finger thick ivory head. Aroma: Orange marmalade, apricot, lemon, biscuit and slight muskiness. Taste: Low sweetness, medium bitterness, low/medium sourness. Palate: Thick smooth texture, light body, low/average carbonation, lingering astringent malty citrus finish. Comments: Tasty and glass lace.
