COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottled; Occasional.
Originally brewed as a one off to celebrate the opening of our new brewhouse and our new distribution centre, we have decided to repeat the beer again in 2009. It came first in its class at the 2008 World beer awards and has also won a Gold medal at the 2008 BBI (British Bottlers Institute) awards. The beer was created under the direction of our Chairman, Jonathan Adnams, whose instruction was to ‘Brew something to wow me’.
The beer, our version of an American IPA, is brewed with a blend of Wheat and Pale ale malts to give a spicy, biscuity undertone to the beer, but it is in the hops where the beer really shines. A blend of hops from England, Slovenia and America (namely Boadicea, Columbus and Stryian Goldings) combine to give a wonderful grapefruit and tropical fruit aroma and bitterness that is balanced by the sweetness of the barley.

Bottle bought at M&S Rickmansworth, Herts. An amber coloured pour with a small off white head on top. Decent hoppy, citrus fruit aroma. Tastes of citrus fruit, tropical fruit, hoppy, bitter/sweet. Surprisingly good, I’ll pick up some more next time I’m in my local M&S.

Bottle. Clear amber big foamy white head. On the pour the nose has citrous, tangerine, grapefruit, some tropical fruit and sweet husky barley. There’s also a crisp grainy hop aroma, more like a lager. Taste is sweet barley, tropical fruit and a touch of citrous grapefruit crisp hop bite. Although an American pale ale it’s got English touches like caramel grainy malt, but lots of new world flavour. Nice lingering sweet tangerine and tropical fruit on the finish. Grows on the palate too.

Bottle, Rehills, Ncl. An interesting mix of flavours. Hoppy and spicy in the nose, which transfers well to the tongue, however, I found a hint of aniseed lurking about, aswell as elderflower. I had doubts initially as to it’s status as an American IPA style beer, however, with continued drinking, some of the characteristics are there. Blackcurrant cough mixture comes into play and there is a spruce aftertaste, giving some dryness and it is a wee bit sulphury, although this is not unpleasant. Doesn’t drink like a beer of this strength.

Lovely deepish gold, thin white head. Heady fruit and hops on the nose. Packed with well balanced sweetish malt and fruity hops. The finish is delicious and long lasting, lovely brew!

Bottle. Pours a brilliant golden orange with a smallish off white coloured head. Nice looking beer. Simply brilliant aromas of light caramel, strawberry jam and some sweet citrus. Amazing stuff. Flavours dont quite hold up unfortunately. Plenty of light caramel sweetness initially followed by a decent resiny bitterness on the finish, Thin to medium mouthfeel. Really good beer.

Badged as M&S Southwold Winter IPA. Spicy grapefruit peel and elderly hops on the nose. Hazy amber with juicy malt body and a good deal of citric bitterness, pink grapefruit, a touch of pine resin. Gentle carbonation, plenty of body and a sherbet pithy finish. Very nice.

500 ml bottle. Golden color, frothy white head. Hoppy aroma with fruity notes. Lengthy hoppy flavor, with hints of resin and lemon, some alcohol in the finish. Full body, medium-light carbonation.
