Cask handpump at The Maypole, Cambridge. Stout appearance with a berry scent. Bit thin. Chocolate and some berries on the end. OK but a bit boring.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Black colour, tan head. Aroma is light roastiness, bit of chocolate. Flavour is light roasted malts, chocolate, maybe some fruits. A bit watery.

Bottle on 29/10/10. Coffee taste and a dry finish. Smokey on the palate. Satisfying but not special.

A Mes rate. Gravicask at the Bree Louise.
Mahogany black with no head what so ever. Seeing a theme here folks from the Bree? Of course not because you’re not reading this are you? Anyway, pleasant smoky malt and alcohol aroma. Not sure where the booze is coming from seeing as it’s only 4.3%... A little fatty and oily in the mouth, too much so for a dry stout, certainly. Good fruity malt, faint chocolate and a good dollop of roasty coffee in the finish. Decent enough and no doubt would be better if on good form.

imdownthepub (7461) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - APR 10, 2010
Cask conditioned at Far From the Madding Crowd, Oxford. Black with tan head. Certainly not a Dry Stout in my book, this is fruity and tart, more like a Porter I would have thought. Some deep roasty notes, with a sweetish coffee and a kiwi fruit note. A little odd really.

Cask gravity at The Butcher’s Arms, Herne. Black, good roast falvour, bit of tar, bit juicy. Pretty good stout.

Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Adnams website confirms the ABV is 4.3%. Very dark red brown with a small off white head. Leathery ash aroma, but some ’Camp’ coffee essence develops. A little sweetness in the taste, but sourness predominates, with a suggestion of smokey bacon and new leather shoes. Mid bitter finish. I rather liked it.

Alphadelic (1470) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAR 12, 2010
Black as night with hints of ruby to the edges and a loose beige head. Classic Adnam’s fruity and lightly sulphourous yeast aromas with a hint of bitter chocolaty malt. Sweet and fruity with a milky texture to begin with all followed up by the wholesome dryness. There is a slightly off fruitiness about the whole thing. Nevertheless a good beer for a first try from a brewer with no testing brewery.
